21. Elicitor-induced formation of secondary products in plant cell cultures. Production of benzophenanthridine alkaloids in Eschscholtzia californica Cham. and hydroxycinnamic acid tyramides in Nicotiana glutinosa L
Abstract : Biotic and abiotic elicitors induce biosynthesis of secondary metabolites (phytoalexins) as a defense against pathogenic organisms in plants. The use of cell suspension cultures in combination with elicitors offer excellent experimental model systems for studies on various elicitor-induced responses of plant tissues. READ MORE

22. Cell wall bulking and distribution of different chemicals in pine, Pinus Sylvestris
Abstract : The interaction between wood, Pinus sylvestris, (60% RH) and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) of different molecular weights (PEG 200 and PEG 1500), pentaerythritol and glycerol, impregnated into the wood, has been investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy, EDS-analysis, dynamical mechanical techniques (DMTA), X-ray diffraction (WAXS) and macroscopic dimensional measurement. Reduced dimensional changes after impregnation when exposed to environments with changing moisture content, showed that the stabilization effect of glycerol and PEG 200 impregnation is very good. 23. Structural studies of enzymes regulating bacterial life style and cell wall biogenesis
Abstract : Bacteria can adapt to different biotic and abiotic environments by changing their life style, switching between sessile or motile, free-living or community-bound, virulent or dormant states. Each bacterium also faces the challenges of maintaining a protective barrier while growing, replicating and responding to environmental changes. READ MORE

24. The role and synthesis of β1,3-galactans in plant cell wall formation
Abstract : The plant cell wall associated hydroxyproline rich glycoproteins (HRGPs) play an important role in cell wall formation, but the mechanisms are not well understood. The HRGP family consists of the heavily glycosylated arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) and the moderately glycosylated extensins (EXTs) and proline rich proteins (PRPs). READ MORE

25. Pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil induced cardiotoxicity : a clinical and experimental study
Abstract : This thesis concerns the pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) induced cardiotoxicity. The aim of the clinical studies was to determine whether hemorheological factors might explain 5-FU cardiotoxicity (I) and if the syndrome was associated with free radical (FR) generation and lipid peroxidation (II).
