  1. 11. Genetics of diabetic subtypes

    Author : Camilla Cervin; Diabetes - klinisk obesitasforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; Mutation; Association; Genetics; LADA; Diabetes; MODY; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : There are two major types of diabetes mellitus, Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), however a number of subtypes have been defined and classified. Maternally Inherited Diabetes and Deafness (MIDD) and Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) are monogenic forms, whereas Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) is thought to be a polygenic subtype similar to T1D. 2. 12. Antigen presenting cells in autoimmune diabetes: phenotype, function and modulation by Linomide

    Author : Eva Dahlén; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; secreting systems; Endocrinology; Linomide; costimulation; TNF-a; dendritic cells; Diabetes; macrophages; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to better understand the role of antigen presenting cells (APC) in the development of diabetes in the nonobese diabetic (NOD) mouse. We have shown that DC and Mphi that infiltrate the islets of Langerhans produce tumour necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), a cytokine known to contribute to the pathogenesis in the early stages of diabetes development. 3. 13. From the pancreatic beta cell to the endothelium:Pathophysiological aspects of Type 2 Diabetes

    Author : Marloes Dekker Nitert; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []

    Abstract : The incidence of Diabetes Mellitus increases globally in epidemic proportions. Type 2 Diabetes is the most prevalent form of Diabetes, comprising 90% of the patients. In Type 2 Diabetes, two processes contribute to the development of the disease: insufficient insulin secretion from the pancreatic ?-cell and insulin resistance of the target organs. READ MORE

  5. 15. Hypoglycaemia: Studies on central and peripheral nerve function

    Author : Bodil Eckert; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; severe retinopathy.; QT interval; Type 1 diabetes; cerebral blood flow; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Hypoglycaemia is an acute complication to insulin-treatment in type 1 diabetes mellitus, which affects many physiological parameters, deteriorates the cognitive function, and may lead to death. The aim of this thesis was to study nerve function, cognitive function and cerebral blood flow during and after hypoglycaemia in healthy subjects and to study certain aspects of a fall in blood glucose in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
