  1. 1. Predictive Modeling of Lake Eutrophication

    Author : Jan Mikael Malmaeus; Lars Håkanson; Kurt Pettersson; Jürg Bloesch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; mass balance model; dynamic model; mechanistic model; phosphorus; LEEDS; suspended particulate matter; settling velocity; sedimentation; accumulation sediments; burial; diffusion; climate scenario; Erken; Balaton; Kinneret; Batorino; Miastro; Naroch; Galten; Ekoln; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis presents predictive models for important variables concerning eutrophication effects in lakes. The keystone is a dynamic phosphorus model based on ordinary differential equations. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fluid mechanics of fibre suspensions related to papermaking

    Author : Richard Holm; Gustav Amberg; R. Krekes; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Applied mechanics; applied fluid mechanics; fibre suspensions; roll-forming; sedimentation; shear flow; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with fluid dynamic mechanisms related to papermaking, specif- ically: the initial dewatering mechanisms during roll-forming and fibre motion in sedimentation and in shear flow. Pressure and wire position measurements have been conducted in a model resembling the forming zone and the measured pressure distributions are shown to have more complex patterns than the simple model p / T/R (where T is the wire tension and R is the roll radius). 3. 3. Numerical study of dynamics of mass-emitting particles in multi-phase flow

    Author : Zeinab Moradi Nour; Minh Do-Quang; Fredrik Lundell; Gustav Amberg; Hans Kuipers; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; particles with outflow; lattice Boltzmann method; particle interaction; liquid-gas-solid systems; sedimentation; shear flow; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Suspended particles can be found in wide range of industrial applications such as food industry, mining industry and energy conversion processes. Depending on flow cases which particles are involved, different dynamics and motions are expected from suspended particles. READ MORE

  4. 4. Suspensions of finite-size rigid particles in laminar and turbulent flows

    Author : Walter Fornari; Luca Brandt; Jérémie Bec; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Suspensions; complex fluids; sedimentation; rheology; turbulence;

    Abstract : Dispersed multiphase flows occur in many biological, engineering and geophysical applications. Understanding the behavior of suspensions is a difficult task. In the present work, we numerically study the behavior of suspensions of finite-size rigid particles in different flows. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sedimentation and Its Challenge for Sustainability of  Hydraulic Structures : A Case Study of Mosul Dam Pumping Station

    Author : Mohammad Ezz-Aldeen Mohammad; Sven Knutsson; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Jan Laue; Rafid Al Khaddar; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : A successful management and operation of water resources projects are essential to maintain their functions. Dams and reservoirs are one of the largest worldwide infrastructures. They serve one or more functions; reliable store and release of water for different purposes, hydropower generation and   flood and draught controls. READ MORE
