  1. 1. Long-term changes in macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast An evaluation of eutrophication effects with special emphasis on increased organic sedimentation

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Britas Klemens Eriksson; Francisco Xavier Niell Castanera; [2002]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Baltic Sea; Eutrophication; Fragmentation; Fucus vesiculosus; Functional group; Gullmar Fjord; Macroalgae; Long-term changes; Reproduction; Sedimentation; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Abstract : In this thesis I examine and evaluate the effects of a documented large-scale eutrophication on macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast. During the past century the load of nutrients has increased manifold in the Baltic Sea area, increasing primary production and organic sedimentation significantly. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ecology of freshwater mussels in disturbed environments

    University dissertation from Fakulteten för samhälls- och livsvetenskaper

    Author : Martin Österling; Larry Greenberg; Björn Arvidsson; David Strayer; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Unionoida; Margaritifera margaritifera; Dreissena; Salmo trutta; habitat degradation; turbidity; sedimentation; recruitment; conservation.; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : The number of species extinctions is increasing at an alarming rate. Long-lived freshwater mussels of the order Unionoida, which include a parasitic stage on a host fish, are highly threatened. Habitat degradation by turbidity and sedimentation is thought to be one major reason for their decline. READ MORE

  3. 3. Treatment conditions for the removal of contaminants from road runoff

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Magnus Hallberg; Gunno Renman; Jiri Marsalek; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dissolved matter; filter bed; particulate matter; sedimentation; suspended solids; TECHNOLOGY Other technology Environmental engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Övriga teknikvetenskaper Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The pollutant load in road runoff is related to traffic densities and road maintenance activities. Inurbanised areas treatment of road runoff is common and often considered necessary. The pollutantsare partitioned between the particulate and dissolved matter. However, the contaminantstend to have an affinity to the particulate material. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fluid mechanics of fibre suspensions related to papermaking

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Richard Holm; Gustav Amberg; R. Krekes; [2005]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Applied mechanics; applied fluid mechanics; fibre suspensions; roll-forming; sedimentation; shear flow; Teknisk mekanik; TECHNOLOGY Engineering mechanics; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with fluid dynamic mechanisms related to papermaking, specif- ically: the initial dewatering mechanisms during roll-forming and fibre motion in sedimentation and in shear flow.Pressure and wire position measurements have been conducted in a model resembling the forming zone and the measured pressure distributions are shown to have more complex patterns than the simple model p / T/R (where T is the wire tension and R is the roll radius). 5. 5. Nanostructure and biomolecule interactions : Characterizing the complex

    University dissertation from Lund University

    Author : Stefan Gunnarsson; [2018-09]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanostructures; Proteins; Lipids; Protein corona; Aggregation; Sedimentation; Diffusion; Electron microscopy; Enzyme activity; Nanowires; Nanoparticles;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the results of studies done on various biomolecules and their interactions with nanomaterials. The biomolecule sources are everything from purified, single proteins to the complicated mixture of blood serum and cell culture media. READ MORE
