  1. 6. Functional analyses of growth and development in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha

    Author : Anja Billhardt; D. Magnus Eklund; Marcel Quint; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Land plant evolution; Bryophytes; Marchantia polymorpha; Dormancy; Circadian clock;

    Abstract : Land plants developed from a freshwater charophycean algae about 500 million years ago. Today, they consist of two main clades, the vascular plants and the non-vascular bryophytes including hornworts, liverworts and mosses. READ MORE

  3. 8. New insights into growth cessation and dormancy in trees

    Author : Lars Resman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Since trees are sessile they have evolved elaborate mechanisms that anticipate oncoming winter and allow the trees to withstand extreme changes in their environment. Trees need to stop growth and initiate cold hardiness well before cold temperatures become damaging, consequently the timings of growth cessation and dormancy are important adaptive traits for their ability to survive in harsh winter conditions. 4. 9. Gibberellin-like substances in seeds during maturation, germination and dormancy release

    Author : Linda von Schirach-Szmigiel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This study concerns the induced seed germination with a special reference to the activity of gibberellin-like substances in Phaseolus vulgaris L., Zea mays L. and Rosa rugosa L. READ MORE

  5. 10. Within-species variation in grass weeds in Sweden : dormancy, herbicide response, genetic relationships

    Author : Liv Åkerblom Espeby; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Variation within a weed species enables it to persist through varying conditions and is thus an important component of weediness. In this thesis, intra-specific variation in two agronomically important attributes - herbicide susceptibility and seed dormancy - are studied in Swedish Apera spica-venti (L.) Beauv. and Alopecurus myosuroides Huds. READ MORE
