  1. 1. Internal fixation of femoral neck fractures

    Author : Leif Hernefalk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Femoral neck fracture; osteotomy; internal fixation; device; technical principles; scintimetry; radiography; biomechanics; malposition; malreduction; complications; bone necrosis; revascularization; segmental collapse; non-union; elderly; osteoporosis; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The incidence of femoral neck fractures in elderly people is rising requiring large health care resources. Internal fixation of the fracture is the treatment of choice in Scandinavia, but in 20-40% of the cases a late complication such as a segmental collapse of the femoral head after initial bone necrosis, or a non-union of the fracture because of non-healing, will occur. 2. 2. Displaced Femoral Neck Fractures : A prospective randomized study of clinical outcome, nutrition and costs

    Author : Torsten Johansson; Ola Wahlström; Karl-Göran Thorngren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arthroplasty; replacement; hip; adverse effects; economics; fracture fixation; internal; femoral neck fractures; surgery; ossification; heterotropic; etiology; nutritional support; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Abstract : Displaced femoral neck fractures comprise more than a third of all hip fractures. There is controversy as to the optimal treatment. Despite attempts to improve the methods for internal fixation, complication rates have been almost unchanged: 20-40% non-union and late segmental collapse in another 10-20%. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lessons Learned in Structural Health Monitoring of Bridges Using Advanced Sensor Technology

    Author : Merit Enckell; Johan Silfwerbrand; Konrad Bergmeister; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Health Monitoring; Structural Health Monitoring System; bridges; sensor technology; emerging technology; fibre optics; fibre optic sensors concrete; creep; shrinkage; steel; distributed sensors; crack detection; Järnvägsgruppen - Infrastruktur; Järnvägsgruppen - Infrastruktur;

    Abstract : Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) with emerging technologies like e.g. fibre optic sensors, lasers, radars, acoustic emission and Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) made an entrance into the civil engineering field in last decades. Expansion of new technologies together with development in data communication benefited for rapid development. READ MORE
