1. Colloidal synthesis of metal nanoparticles
Abstract : Metal nanoparticles (NPs) are central in a wide range of industrial areas including catalytic and biomedical applications. Due to their interesting physical properties, the demand of these precious materials is steadily increasing, which has created a need for the development of effective and high-performing NPs. 2. Improved finite element modelingfor chip morphology prediction inmachining of C45E steel
Abstract : Within the manufacturing of metallic components, machining plays an important role and is of vital significance to ensure process reliability. From a cutting tool design perspective, physics-based numerical modeling that can predict chip morphology is highly necessary to design tool macro geometry. READ MORE

3. Durable Polysulfones with Densely Sulfonated Segments for Highly Proton Conducting Membranes
Abstract : Fuel cells are considered as a promising alternative environmentally benign power source to the existing ones depending on petroleum oil. Especially, proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have been intensively developed during the last decade because of their wide application windows including various portable, stationary and transportation applications. 4. Segmentation and Visualisation of Human Brain Structures
Abstract : In this thesis the focus is mainly on the development of segmentation techniques for human brain structures and of the visualisation of such structures. The images of the brain are both anatomical images (magnet resonance imaging (MRI) and autoradigraphy) and functional images that show blood flow (functional magnetic imaging (fMRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and single photon emission tomograpy (SPECT)). 5. Mathematical Modeling of Transport Phenomena in Polymer Electrolyte and Direct Methanol Fuel Cells
Abstract : This thesis deals with modeling of two types of fuel cells:the polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) and the directmethanol fuel cell (DMFC), for which we address four majorissues: a) mass transport limitations; b) water management(PEFC); c) gas management (DMFC); d) thermal management. Four models have been derived and studied for the PEFC,focusing on the cathode. READ MORE
