1. Laboratory Seismic Testing of Asphalt Concrete
Abstract : Nondestructive laboratory seismic testing to characterize the complex modulus and Poisson’s ratio of asphalt concrete is presented in this thesis. These material properties are directly related to pavement quality and the dynamic Young’s modulus is used in thickness design of pavements. READ MORE

2. 2D and 3D Seismic Surveying at the CO2SINK Project Site, Ketzin, Germany: The Potential for Imaging the Shallow Subsurface
Abstract : Seismic traveltime inversion, traveltime tomography and seismic reflection techniques have been applied for two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) data acquired in conjunction with site characterization and monitoring aspects at a carbon dioxide (CO2) geological storage site at Ketzin, Germany (the CO2SINK project). Conventional seismic methods that focused on investigating the CO2 storage and caprock formations showed a poor or no image of the upper 150 m. READ MORE

3. Seismic quiescence patterns and earthquake prediction research : Testing hypotheses for Greece and China
Abstract : The main aim of this investigation is to evaluate the most well known hypotheses and models in earthquake prediction research. For this reason we investigate the "localized" seismic quiescence hypothesis using the Z value griding method as well as the recently introduced Seismolap hypothesis of "extended" seismic quiescence. 4. Non-contact surface wave measurements on pavements
Abstract : In this thesis, nondestructive surface wave measurements are presented for characterization of dynamic modulus and layer thickness on different pavements and cement concrete slabs. Air-coupled microphones enable rapid data acquisition without physical contact with the pavement surface. READ MORE

5. On the small strain stiffness of some Scandinavian clays and impact on deep excavation
Abstract : This thesis presents the results of a comprehensive study on the small strain stiffness of several Swedish clays and its tentative effect on the design of retaining structures. A combination of field measurement techniques, seismic dilatometer and surface seismics, are complemented with bender element testing of the retrieved samples. READ MORE
