  1. 1. On the efficacy and prescription of serotonin reuptake inhibitors

    Author : Alexander Lisinski; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antidepressants; antidepressive agents; major depressive disorder; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor; serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor; tricyclic antidepressant;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses several controversial issues regarding commonly used antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). To this end, patient-level data from 28 placebo-controlled trials on SSRIs and 13 corresponding trials on the SNRI duloxetine, were requested and obtained. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Effects of Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors in Major Depression

    Author : Fredrik Hieronymus; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antidepressants; antidepressive agents; depression; major depressive disorder; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor; SNRI; SSRI;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the antidepressant effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and how these are reflected by the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). To this end, we have assembled a large data set of placebo-controlled SSRI trials in major depression, and used this for a series of post-hoc patient-level analyses. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the hypersensitivity syndrome induced by the selective serotonin reuptake inhibiting antidepressant Zimeldine : A clinical and experimental study

    Author : Bengt-O Bengtsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Zimeldine; Norzimeldine; Hypersensitivity syndrome; Serotonin reuptake inhibition; Genetic disposition; Lymphocyte transformation test; Experimental allergic neuritis; Immunopharmacology; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Zimeldine, the first selective neuronal serotonin (5-H1) reuptake inhibitor to be registered as an antidepressant was withdrawn from common use due to an acute flu-like adverse syndrome comprising fever, myalgia and/or arthralgia and signs of disturbed liver function. A few of these patients also developed a peripheral neuropathy, in the most serious form a Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). READ MORE

  4. 4. From achiral to chiral analysis of citalopram

    Author : Björn Carlsson; Yngve Bergqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : depression; noradrenaline; dopamine; serotonin; citalopram; selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitor SSRI ; high-performance liquid chromatography HPLC ; therapeutic drug monitoring TDM ; enantioselective separation; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Within the field of depression the “monoamine hypothesis” has been the leading theory to explain the biological basis of depression. This theory proposes that the biological basis of depression is due to a deficiency in one or more of three key neurotransmitter systems, namely noradrenaline, dopamine and serotonin which are thought to mediate the therapeutic actions of virtually every known antidepressant agent. 5. 5. Social Phobia. From Epidemiology to Brain Function

    Author : Tomas Furmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Anxiety; brain; epidemiology; fear; neuroimaging; neurotransmitters; positron emission tomography; prevalence; serotonin; social phobia; subtypes; treatment; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Social phobia is a disabling anxiety disorder characterized by an excessive fear of negative evaluation in social situations. The present thesis explored the epidemiology and neurobiology of the disorder. By means of a mailed questionnaire, the point prevalence of social phobia in the Swedish general population was estimated at 15.6%. READ MORE
