11. Programming Model and Protocols for Reconfigurable Distributed Systems
Abstract : Distributed systems are everywhere. From large datacenters to mobile devices, an ever richer assortment of applications and services relies on distributed systems, infrastructure, and protocols. Despite their ubiquity, testing and debugging distributed systems remains notoriously hard. READ MORE

12. Inference of Hierarchical Structure in Complex Systems
Abstract : Hierarchical organization is a central property of complex systems. It is even argued that a system is required to be hierarchical in order to evolve complexity within reasonable time. A hierarchy of a system is defined as the set of self-contained levels at which the system operates and can be described on. READ MORE

13. Structural and evolutionary aspects of stochastic processes
Abstract : Stochastic processes constitute a broad class of objects of central importance in complex systems. The main structural aspect of stochastic processes that is treated in this thesis is their hierarchical dynamics. READ MORE

14. A Field of Possibilities: Designing and Playing Digital Musical Instruments
Abstract : This thesis focuses on a set of digital musical instruments I have designed and developed with ensemble improvisation in mind. The intention is not to create a universal improvisational instrument, but rather to create a set of instruments which each realize one musical idea. READ MORE

15. X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy on Nano-Magnet Arrays and Thin Films : Magnetism and Structure
Abstract : The magnetic and structural properties of nano magnet arrays and ferromagnetic thin films are investigated. Circular x-rays are used and extensive use is made in this Thesis of the X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) technique. By means of the XMCD magneto-optic sum rules the values of the orbital and spin moments are determined. READ MORE
