1. Novel Technologies for Mode-Locking of Solid-State Lasers
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the investigation of novel technologies for mode-locking of diode-pumped, solid-state lasers. Novel saturable absorbers are used: quantum dots (QDs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which both are low-dimensional nano-formations. In addition, mode-locking by cascaded nonlinearities is explored. 2. Dilute Nitride Lasers and Spectrally Engineered Semiconductor Laser Resonators
Abstract : The first part of this thesis deals with long wavelength (1.2-1.3 um) InGaAs(N)multiple quantum-well (QW) lasers grown on GaAs, with the aim of understandingand improving their threshold and temperature characteristics. The epitaxialmaterial is grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). READ MORE

3. High Power, Long Wavelength Semiconductor Disk Lasers for Continuous and Mode-Locked Operation
Abstract : The semiconductor disk laser has recentlyemerged as an attractive alternative to bulky and power consuming gas and solid state lasers. It offers compact, powerful and efficient devices with W level output power and beam properties earlier not achieved with semiconductor lasers. READ MORE

4. Optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers for high-power wide wavelength tuning
Abstract : In this work I present and verify a strategy that makes it possible to change the wavelength, or color, of an external cavity semiconductor laser over a very large range. This is achieved by a careful design and thorough optimization of the active component — the gain element of the laser. READ MORE
