1. Development of shape optimization for internal flows
Abstract : This thesis describes the development of an adjoint based optimizationmethod. The goal is to develop a robust method capable of handling multipledesign variables, whereastraditional methods have shown to be too costly for many design parameters. The main application is for internal flow geometries within theautomotive industry. 2. Microwave Measurement Systems for Parameter Estimation and Classification
Abstract : Microwave measurement systems are attractive for diagnostics and monitoring purposes in a number of important applications. For example, the strong interaction between microwaves and water make microwaves well-suited for moisture measurements. READ MORE

3. Notch sensitivity and bridging laws in glass mat composites
Abstract : The fracture behaviour of polymeric random glass mat reinforced composites was investigated. Such materials exhibit very large damage zones with fibre bridging. The damage zone sizes are often comparable with the specimen dimensions, which precludes the use of linear elastic frac-ture mechanics (LEFM). READ MORE

4. Accuracy and reproducibility in phase contrast magnetic resonance imaging
Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging modality which provides good conditions for studies of flow and motion in the cardiovascular system. When using the phase contrast imaging technique, it is possible to perform velocity measurements in moving tissues and in blood. READ MORE

5. The Skorohod problem and weak approximation of stochastic differential equations in time-dependent domains
Abstract : This thesis consists of a summary and four scientific articles. All four articles consider various aspects of stochastic differential equations and the purpose of the summary is to provide an introduction to this subject and to supply the notions required in order to fully understand the articles.
