  1. 1. Sentinel Node in Clinical Practice : Implications for Breast Cancer Treatment and Prognosis

    Author : Yvette Andersson; Leif Bergkvist; Jan Frisell; Jana de Boniface; Robert Mansel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; sentinel node; micrometastases; survival; non-sentinel node metastases;

    Abstract : The introduction of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has conveyed several new issues, such as the risk of false negativity, long-term consequences, the prognostic significance of micrometastases and whether ALND can be omitted in sentinel lymph node- (SLN) positive patients.Archived SLN specimens from 50 false negative patients and 107 true negative controls were serially sectioned and stained with immunohistochemistry. 2. 2. Sentinel Node Biopsy for Breast Cancer : Aspects and evolution

    Author : Andreas Karakatsanis; Fredrik Wärnberg; Peter Stålberg; Helena Olofsson; Lisa Rydén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Breast Cancer; Sentinel Node Biopsy; Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide;

    Abstract : Sentinel Node Biopsy (SNB) in clinical practice was pivotal to the shaping of modern diagnosis, staging and treatment of patients with breast cancer. The use of radioisotope (RI) and blue dye (BD) has led to high detection rates with low false negatives, but delivery-of-care limitations connected to these tracers as well as the need for methods addressing new clinical conundrums delineates the urge for new tracers with comparable performance, easier logistics and, ideally expanded implementations. 3. 3. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, a novel tracer in breast cancer surgery

    Author : Abdi-Fatah Hersi; Staffan Eriksson; Fredrik Wärnberg; Andreas Karakatsanis; Thorsten Kühn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles; SPIO; magnetic seed; magnetic surgery; sentinel node; sentinel node biopsy; nonpalpable; ductal carcinoma in situ; DCIS; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : The most common surgical choice of treatment in breast cancer is breast-conserving surgery (BCS) together with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB). Around 10% of breast cancer diagnosis are ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIO) are a novel tracer for sentinel lymph node (SN) detection. READ MORE

  4. 4. Detecting prostate cancer metastases - PET/CT and the sentinel node technique

    Author : Henrik Kjölhede; Malmö Urologisk cancerforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; Metastases; PET CT; Choline; Fluoride; Sentinel lymph nodes;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies. Its treatment is highly dependent on the presence or absence of metastases. The available invasive and non-invasive modalities for detecting metastases are imperfect. READ MORE

  5. 5. Predictors of Lymph Node Metastasis in Primary Breast Cancer - Risk Models for Tailored Axillary Management

    Author : Looket Dihge; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; Axillary lymph node dissection; Sentinel lymph node biopsy; Ultrasonography; Nomogram; Artificial neural network; Gene Expression; Prediction model;

    Abstract : Most patients with breast cancer present with low-risk tumors, node-negative disease, and excellent prognosis. For these patients, routine axillary nodal staging by sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has no therapeutic benefit. For patients with limited sentinel lymph node metastasis, completion axillary nodal dissection is controversial. READ MORE
