  1. 1. Aspects on sepsis : treatment and markers

    University dissertation from Malmö University. Faculty of Health and Society

    Author : Anna Gustafsson; Malmö University.; Malmö University.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; antimicrobial peptides; cytokines; lipoteichoic acid; lipopolysaccharide; soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor; sepsis;

    Abstract : Sepsis is one of the greatest challenges in critical care medicine today, while the treatment of sepsis and evaluation of its severity is complicated. The first part of this thesis presents two approaches on the use of antimicrobial peptides in sepsis treatment, relying on both soluble and immobilized peptides. READ MORE

  2. 2. Avian antibodies applied in particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay Developement of serum/plasma calprotectin immunoassay and its clinical performance as a marker for bacterial infections

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Tom Nilsen; Uppsala universitet.; [2018]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sepsis; avian antibodies; calprotectin antigen; particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay.; Clinical Chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein in the granulocytes, consisting of S100A8 and S100A9. On the site of inflammation, the neutrophils release the cytosol as an inflammatory response. The circulating calprotectin concentration increases and can therefore be used as marker for neutrophil activation and inflammation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Biomolecules at Interfaces -Studied by Surface and Solution Techniques

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anna Bergstrand; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LDL; sepsis; PEG; LPS; lipopolysaccharide; QCM-D; SPR;

    Abstract : The interfacial behaviour of biomolecules in general and proteins in particular is interesting from a biochemical point of view since proteins are involved in processes such as complement activation, blood coagulation and atherosclerotic plaque formation, but also in the context of biomedical applications such as solid-phase diagnostics, therapeutic aphaeresis and biosensors. The objective of this thesis is to study biomolecular interactions using surface sensitive biosensor techniques such as surface plasmon resonance, SPR, in combination with bulk techniques. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental septic shock – Effects of endotoxemia with special reference to pathophysiological responses in the pig

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ewa Söderberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endotoxin; inflammatory response; animal model; timing; steroid treatment; NGAL; Calprotectin; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : Sepsis and septic shock are conditions, with severe outcome or in many cases death. Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response trigger by bacteraemia but systemic inflammatory response can also be triggered by major trauma, major surgery, pancreatitis, severe burns etc. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biomarkers of acute kidney injury

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Physiology and Pharmacology

    Author : Johan Mårtensson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and potentially fatal complication in critically ill patients. The diagnosis relies on functional markers of decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) such as creatinine. Unfortunately, a rise in plasma creatinine lags behind the early structural changes that occur in response to various renal insults. READ MORE
