  1. 21. Dimension Reduction and Signal Decomposition for Genotype–Phenotype Relations

    Author : Rasmus Perby Henningsson; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematik; Bioinformatik; Dimensionsreduktion; Computational mathematics; Bioinformatics; Dimension reduction;

    Abstract : Over the last few decades, DNA sequencing has developed from costing billions of dollars to get the complete sequence of the human genome, to being a routine procedure performed in labs all around the world. This has transformed the field of experimental biology since measurements can be done at a level of detail that was not possible before. READ MORE

  2. 22. Structural Insights into the Acquisition and Storage of Iron

    Author : Ulrika Schagerlöf; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Strukturkemi; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; Structure chemistry; single particle; ferric reductase; human phagocyte superoxide-generating NADPH oxidase; frataxin; cryo electron microscopy; FRO2; iron homeostasis; iron acquisition;

    Abstract : It is of vital importance to understand the systems for iron metabolism and this thesis contributes to this by providing insights into the structure and function of the acquisition and homeostasis of iron. The two proteins that have been primarily investigated are a ferric reductase from Arabidopsis thaliana called FRO2 and a mitochondrial iron chaperone from Saccharomyces cerevisiae called frataxin. 3. 23. Structure-function studies of epoxide hydrolases

    Author : Agata Naworyta; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Epoxides are three-membered cyclic ethers formed in cells via several metabolic pathways. Epoxide hydrolases (EHs) are enzymes that hydrolyse epoxides to the corresponding diols. The main goal of this thesis was to investigate the structures of EHs from the alpha/beta-hydrolase family. READ MORE

  4. 24. Computational identification of non-coding RNAs

    Author : Paul Piccinelli; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : RNase P; RNase MRP; IRE; non-coding RNA; secondary structure;

    Abstract : A large amount of genomic information is now becoming available. Suitable bioinformatic tools to organize and analyze this vast amount of information are therefore important. In the case of protein genes, the majority of these may be correctly identified using standard search methods that are based on sequence alignment. READ MORE

  5. 25. The immunoglobulin heavy chain 3ʼ enhancer : coupling of basic-Helix-Loop-Helix proteins to the regulation of enhancer function

    Author : Velmurugesan Arulampalam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : During B lymphocyte development, the transcriptional activity of the IgH locus is subject to spatial and temporal changes. One cis-control element, the IgH 3' enhancer, has been implicated in regulating functional events in late B cell development. READ MORE
