16. Sequence based analysis of neurodevelopmental disorders
Abstract : In this thesis the main focus is the use of methods and applications of next generation sequencing in order to study three of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders: intellectual disability, epilepsy and schizophrenia. A large fraction of the genes in our genome produce several distinct transcript isoforms through the process of splicing and there is an increasing amount of evidence pinpointing mutations affecting splicing as a mechanism of disease. 17. Thermodynamics of Protein Folding and Design
Abstract : The protein folding and protein design problems are addressed, using coarse-grained models with only two types of amino acids, hydrophobic and hydrophilic. In addition to hydrophobicity forces, the models contain sequence-independent local interactions which are found to strongly influence the thermodynamics of these models. READ MORE

18. Program Matters : From Drawing to Code
Abstract : Whether on paper, on site or mediating between both, means for reading and writing geometry have been central to architecture: the use of compasses and rulers, strings, pins, stakes or plumb-lines enabled the analysis and reproduction of congruent figures on different surfaces since antiquity, and from the renaissance onwards, the consistent planar representation of three-dimensional shapes by means of projective geometry. Tacitly through practice, or explicitly encoded in classical geometry, the operational syntaxes of drawing instruments, real or imaginary, have determined the geometric literacies regulating the production and instruction of architecture. 19. Computational Prediction Models for Proteolytic Cleavage and Epitope Identification
Abstract : The biological functions of proteins depend on their physical interactions with other molecules, such as proteins and peptides. Therefore, modeling the protein-ligand interactions is important for understanding protein functions in different biological processes. READ MORE

20. Microfluidic bead-based methods for DNA analysis
Abstract : With the completion of the human genome sequencing project, attention is currently shifting toward understanding how genetic variation, such as single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), leads to disease. To identify, understand, and control biological mechanisms of living organisms, the enormous amounts of accumulated sequence information must be coupled to faster, cheaper, and more powerful technologies for DNA, RNA, and protein analysis.
