  1. 1. Statistical models of TF/DNA interaction

    Author : Aymeric Fouquier d'Herouel; Erik Aurell; Otto Berg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gene expression; regulation; transcription factor; binding motif; matrix representations; gibbs sampling; binding affinity; non-specific binding; Biological physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Gene expression is regulated in response to metabolic necessities and environmental changes throughout the life of a cell. A major part of this regulation is governed at the level of transcription, deciding whether messengers to specific genes are produced or not. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of calcium binding proteins 1 and 2 and protein kinase CK2

    Author : Inger Janson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; calcium binding protein 1; calcium binding protein 2; calcium binding protein 4; erd2receptor; protein kinase CK2; endoplasmic reticulum; Golgi; microsomes; heparin; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a major intracellular compartment of eukaryotic cells and is the site of the synthesis and post-translational modification of both secretory and membrane glycoproteins. Upon cell rupture vesicles of several kinds are formed from cell membranes, mainly derived from ER and are called microsomes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Decoding Heparan Sulfate

    Author : Johan Kreuger; John T. Gallager; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Heparan sulfate; fibroblast growth factor; receptor; endostatin; angiogenesis; interaction; sequence; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a polysaccharide of glycosaminoglycan type composed of alternating hexuronic acid [either glucuronic acid (GlcA) or iduronic acid (IdoA)] and glucosamine (GlcN) units that can be sulfated in various positions. HS binds to a large number of proteins and these interactions promote many biological processes, including cell adhesion and growth factor signaling. READ MORE

  4. 4. The MHC-glycopeptide-T cell interaction in collagen induced arthritis : a study using glycopeptides, isosteres and statistical molecular design in a mouse model for rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Lotta Holm; Jan Kihlberg; Morten Grötli; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; collagen; T-cell; class II MHC; solid phase peptide synthesis; glycopeptide; peptide isostere; PCA; statistical molecular design; PLS; QSAR; sequence binding motif; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease affecting approximately 1% of the population in the western world. It is characterised by a tissue specific attack of cartilage in peripheral joints. Collagen induced arthritis (CIA) is one of the most commonly used animal models for (RA), with similar symptoms and histopathology. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of the DNA-Binding Properties of the Cyanobacterial Transcription Factor NtcA

    Author : Susanne Wisén; Bengt Mannervik; Enrique Flores; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; NtcA; transcription regulation; cyanobacteria; redox regulation; DNA binding; nitrogen fixation; Anabaena PCC 7120; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Nitrogen is an essential building block of proteins and nucleic acids and, therefore, crucial for the biosphere. Nearly 79 % of the air consists of nitrogen, but in the form of nitrogen gas (N2), which cannot be utilized by most organisms. READ MORE
