1. Fat cell insulin resistance : an experimental study focusing on molecular mechanisms in type 2 diabetes
Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was to further increase our understanding of mechanisms contributing to and maintaining cellular insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes (T2D). For this reason, the effects of high glucose and insulin levels on glucose transport capacity and insulin signaling, with emphasis on insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS-1) were assessed in fat cells. 2. Intrapulmonary insulin : Experimental and clinical studies
Abstract : After intrapulmonary insulin administration was first reported in 1925, the development of highly efficient nebulisers has once again made this area interesting. Therefore, the distribution and retention of aerosol produced by a new jet nebuliser was evaluated in an animal model. READ MORE

3. Insulin-Degrading Enzyme : A link between insulin resistance and Alzheimer's disease
Abstract : Background: Prior research has demonstrated an elevated risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) among individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Insulin resistance is a potential common link between these conditions, and it is associated with AD due to the insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE), which also degrades amyloid-β (Aβ) in the brain. 4. Cardiovascular risk indicators in adolescents : the Umeå youth study
Abstract : Atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVD), particularly coronary heart disease (CHD) and cerebrovascular disease, are today major causes of death in the industrialised parts of the world. There are evidence to suggest that the atherosclerotic process starts in childhood, implying that preventive measures should be implemented already in children and adolescents. READ MORE

5. Left ventricular hypertrophy and the insulin resistance syndrome
Abstract : Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and the insulin resistance syndrome are common conditions associated with a markedly increased cardiovascular risk. In a fairly large prospective longitudinal study of men from the general population, we found that an unfavorable serum fatty acid profile and components of the insulin resistance syndrome such as dyslipidemia, obesity and hypertension at age 50 predicted the prevalence of LVH at age 70.
