  1. 21. Understanding Energy Behaviour – A Necessity for Supporting Domestic Energy Conservation through Design

    Author : Anneli Selvefors; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Energy conservation; energy behaviour; domestic energy consumption; design for sustainable behaviour; energy feedback;

    Abstract : Domestic energy consumption is continuing to increase and the need to decrease consumption is growing more evident. In this research, two studies were conducted to further the understanding of domestic energy behaviour and increase the knowledge of how energy conservation can be supported. READ MORE

  2. 22. Designing for Peer Learning : Mathematics, Games and Peer Groups in Leisure-time Centers

    Author : Åsa Harvard Maare; Sune Vork Steffensen; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Leisure-time centers; mathematics; embodied interaction; design research; motivation; observational learning; Leisure-time centers;

    Abstract : Constrained by national tests and the mathematics curriculum, teachers have problems finding time for exploratory and hands-on mathematical activities, especially so in classes with a reduced pace of progression, for example because of a large proportion of second-language learners. Could the leisure-time center, where time is not earmarked, provide such opportunities? The conclusion of this thesis is that this can be done, on the condition that designed activities build on the central premise of the leisure-time center: children have the right to choose which activities to engage with. 3. 23. Modalities of Place: On Polarisation and Exclusion in Concepts of Place and in Site-Specific Art

    Author : Gunnar Sandin; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; interior design; Architecture; Actants; Modalities; Place; Site-Specific Art; Arkitektur; inredningsarkitektur;

    Abstract : In this thesis the notion of place is studied by way of investigating the “non-place” which is excluded or opposed, whenever a place is defined. “Non-place” is used here as a meta-concept, covering various recurring types of opposition to “place,” and it therefore represents a profoundly incoherent spect-rum of realities and concepts. 4. 24. Integrated Product and Production Platforms for Pharmaceutical Products: Design Thinking for the Development of Personalized Medicines

    Author : Maria Daniela Irene Siiskonen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Integrated product and production platforms; Personalized medicines; Mass customization;

    Abstract : Treatments, when customized according to individual patient attributes, are in recent years referred to as personalized medicines. Personalized medicines aim at improving the therapeutic outcome of the patient. However, current pharmaceutical production is dominated by mass production in a batch manner, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 25. Structurally Informed Architectural Design

    Author : Laurens Luyten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; architect; structural engineer; architectural design; structural design; conceptual design; design collaboration;

    Abstract : Architectural form and its supporting structure are results of interdependent design processes that do not always develop in harmony: often major outlines of architectural form are decided before structural design is involved. This doctoral work investigates design collaborations between architects and structural engineers in which architecture and structure are designed in mutual agreement, and structural design is able to guide and inspire a creation of architectural form and space.
