1. Stroke, Sex and Vascular Receptor Changes in the Brain
Abstract : Stroke is a severe cerebrovascular disease in which the neuronal tissue and vasculature of the brain undergo ischemia-evoked alterations. We have demonstrated an increased expression of cerebrovascular contractile receptors in the brain. This is hypothesized to mitigate cerebral blood flow and exacerbate tissue damage after stroke. 2. Steroid-Metabolizing Cytochrome P450 (CYP) Enzymes in the Maintenance of Cholesterol and Sex Hormone Levels
Abstract : The enzymes CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and perform catalytic reactions in cholesterol homeostasis and endocrine signaling. We have investigated the metabolism of a synthetic oxysterol. READ MORE

3. Sex steroid metabolism and body composition
Abstract : Background: The bioactive androgens testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) regulate bone and fat mass in men. The effects of androgens are largely determined by the rate of their synthesis and inactivation. READ MORE

4. Metabolic and ovarian consequences of perinatal sex steroid programming
Abstract : Endocrine and metabolic disturbances in adulthood may stem from insults such as nutritional and hormonal alterations that occur at critical periods in pre- or postnatal life – a process known as programming. This means that suboptimal conditions in utero and early life may contribute to adult reproductive and metabolic impairments such as type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. READ MORE

5. Sex steroid effects on normal breast tissue
Abstract : In Sweden, it is estimated that about one million women are treated with estrogen/progestogen for contraception and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The possibility of an increased cancer risk in target organs has been vividly discussed for many years. READ MORE
