  1. 1. Modelling Sexual Interactions : Sexual behaviour and the spread of sexually transmitted infections on dynamic networks

    Author : Disa Hansson; Tom Britton; Fredrik Liljeros; KaYin Leung; Janneke Heijne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical modelling; Sexually transmitted infections; Egocentric network analysis; Dynamic networks; Sexual behaviour; HIV; Statistical inference; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we develop statistical and mathematical models to study different factors of relevance for the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Two special interest groups for STI interventions are considered: sexually active youths and men who have sex with men (MSM). READ MORE

  2. 2. Sexual Conflict and Gene Expression in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Paolo Innocenti; Edward Morrow; Göran Arnqvist; Andrew G Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sexual conflict; sexual selection; male-female coevolution; gene expression; transcriptome; microarrays; sexual dimorphism; Drosophila; Biology; Biologi; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : Sexual conflict is broadly defined as a conflict between the evolutionary interests of the two sexes. Depending on the genetic architecture of the traits involved, it can occur at the level of male-female interactions or take the form of selection acting to change the mean of a shared trait against the sign of its genetic correlation. 3. 3. Genetic variation and sexual reproduction in a moss with dwarf males, Homalothecium lutescens

    Author : Frida Rosengren; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bryophytes; mosses; dwarf males; sexual reproduction; genetic variation; genetic structure; inbreeding; isozymes; allozymes; SNP; sporophytes; spore; fertilization; fertility;

    Abstract : Dwarf males occur in many unrelated groups of organisms. Among land plants they are unique to mosses. Moss dwarf males originate from male spores that land and germinate on the female where their final size is restricted to a few mm. Fertilization in mosses occur over short distances with swimming spermatozoids. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sexual Selection and Adaptation to Novel Environments

    Author : Ivain Martinossi-Allibert; David Berger; Göran Arnqvist; Lukas Schärer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sexual selection; Environmental change; Sexual conflict; Environmental stress; Adaptation; Adaptive landscape; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology;

    Abstract : The work included in this thesis aims at exploring the environmental sensitivity of benefits and costs of sexual selection through a combined empirical and theoretical effort, to increase our understanding of the impact of environmental change on sexually reproducing populations.Can sexual selection promote adaptation to novel environments? Sexual selection for good genes should accelerate adaptation by granting higher reproductive success to individuals of high genetic quality. READ MORE

  5. 5. Everyday problems in men with prostate cancer. Aspects of micturition, indwelling urinary catheter treathment and sexual life

    Author : Liselotte Jakobsson; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; sexualitet; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; Obstetrik; sexuality; reproduction; andrology; Nursing care needs; Micturition; Quality of life; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; Prostate cancer; Nursing care; Benign prostatic hyperplasia; Sense of Coherence; Indwelling urinary catheter treatment; Sexual life problems; gynaecology; Obstetrics;

    Abstract : The aim was to investigate the presence of everyday problems in men with prostate cancer, their relation to health-related quality of life, HRQOL, and sense of coherence, SOC, and to compare with men with benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH, and a sample from the general population. The aim also was to investigate what nursing care needs there were in men with prostate cancer and how these were met during an in-patient period. READ MORE
