  1. 21. Damage accumulation and stiffness degradation in composite laminates

    Author : Roberts Joffe; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymeric Composite Materials; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial;

    Abstract : In the presented thesis analytical modeling of elastic properties degradation and modeling of damage evolution in composite laminates is performed. Transverse cracking initiation on a fiber/matrix level is briefly studied by testing model composites and cross-ply laminates. READ MORE

  2. 22. Estimation of the Elastic Moduli of Porous Materials using Analytical Methods, Numerical Methods, and Image Analysis

    Author : Thushan Chandrasiri Ekneligoda; Robert W. Zimmerman; Igor Tsukrov; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : The effective bulk modulus and effective shear modulus of porous materials having various types of pore shapes are investigated, using both analytical and numerical methods. These solutions, and the scaling laws that are derived with the aid of these solutions, are then used to make predictions of the effective elastic moduli of some sandstones and ceramics, based on two-dimensional images of the pore space. 3. 23. Vibration of sandwich beams

    Author : Daniel Backström; Anders Nilsson; Goran Pavic; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Abstract : Some aspects and properties of the lateral vibration of sandwich beams are investigated, including the concept of apparent bending stiffness and shear modulus, allowing the sandwich beam dynamics to be approximately described by classical beam theory. A sixth order beam model is derived including boundary conditions, and the free and forced response of some beam configurations analyzed. READ MORE

  4. 24. On the in-plane mechanical properties of birch plywood

    Author : Tianxiang Wang; Magnus Wålinder; Roberto Crocetti; Bo Källsner; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Birch plywood; in-plane mechanical properties; load-to-face grain angle; failure criteria; size effect; moisture; Björkplywood; mekaniska egenskaper i planet; belastningsvinkel relativt ytfaneren; brott kriterier; storlekseffekt; fukt; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Abstract : Birch plywood has favorable mechanical properties that could be used in new types of connections for timber structures, and thus enable a substitution of the current system with steel plates. Such new connections could result in significant advantages in terms of environmental impact and economy as well as ease of prefabrication and mountability. READ MORE

  5. 25. Stainless steel plasticity : material modelling and structural applications

    Author : Anders Olsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : The thesis addresses stainless steel in construction with focus on plasticity and shear resistance of welded girders respectively. In the area of plasticity it comprises an account of an experimental study with emphasis on phenomenological observations followed by theorethical modelling. READ MORE
