  1. 1. Thin Layers in Elastic Wave Propagation -Effective Modelling and Diffraction

    Author : Peter Bövik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geometrical Theory of Diffraction; elastic wave scattering; shear waves; Wienr-Hopf method; L-TV waves; applications;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the interest is focussed on the problem of effective modelling of thin interface layers for applications in elastic wave scattering. The layers are considered to be thin compared with wavelengths involved and it is shown that when all effects to lowest order in the layer thickness are included, we get boundary conditions (BCs) which have a number of nice features, including the one of implying that no scattering occurs when the layer has material parameters identical to the ones in the matrix medium. 2. 2. Three-component digital-based seismic landstreamer : Methodologies for infrastructure planning applications

    Author : Bojan Brodic; Alireza Malehmir; Christopher Juhlin; André Pugin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; landstreamer; multicomponent seismic; shear-waves; surface-waves; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik;

    Abstract : To support urban infrastructure planning projects, along with various other near-surface applications, a multicomponent landstreamer was developed. The landstreamer was built with broadband (0-800 Hz), three-component (3C) micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) sensors. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transmission of waves through elastic and viscoelastic junctions

    Author : Tomas Nygren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Wave; elastic; viscoelastic; extensional; characteristic impedance; junction; transmission; reflection; dissipation; optimisation; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid Mechanics; hållfasthetslära;

    Abstract : Transmission of extensional waves through elastic and viscoelastic junctions between elastic and collinear bars have been studied theoretically and experimentally. The models used can be interpreted also for other types of waves (e.g. dilatational waves, shear waves, electromagnetic waves) and systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Isotropic and Anisotropic P and S Velocities of the Baltic Shield Mantle : Results from Analyses of Teleseismic Body Waves

    Author : Tuna Eken; Roland Roberts; Uli Achauer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teleseismic tomography; mantle lithosphere; seismic anisotropy; teleseismic earthquakes; shear wave splitting; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geophysics Specialized In Seismology; geofysik; med inriktning mot seismologi;

    Abstract : The upper mantle structure of Swedish part of Baltic Shield with its isotropic and anisotropic seismic velocity characteristics is investigated using telesesismic body waves (i.e. P waves and shear waves) recorded by the Swedish National Seismological Network (SNSN). READ MORE
