21. Shear walls for multi-storey timber buildings
Abstract : Wind loads acting on wooden building structures need to be dealt with adequately in order to ensure that neither the serviceability limit state nor the ultimate limit state is exceeded. For the structural designer of tall buildings, avoiding the possibly serious consequences of heavy wind loading while taking account at the same time of the effects of gravitation can be a real challenge. 22. Shear and Torsion Interaction in Prestressed Hollow Core Slabs
Abstract : There are many applications in which hollow core units are subjected to combined torsion and shear, for example in floors supported on three edges and in floors with openings. The traditional calculation method for combined shear and torsion in hollow-core units adds stresses from various sources without taking into account deformations and compatibility within the unit or restraint at the boundaries. 23. The modified Iosipescu shear test for orthotropic materials
Abstract : AbstractThe Iosipescu shear test, also known as asymmetric four point bending of a V-notched beam,is frequently used for measuring in-plane shear properties of composites. The ASTM standard(ASTM D-5379-05) regulates how the test is to be performed. READ MORE

24. Analysis of shear walls for multi-storey timber buildings
Abstract : This doctoral thesis addresses questions of how wind loads acting on multistoreytimber buildings can be dealt with by structural design of such buildings. The conventional use of sheathing either nailed or screwed to a timberframework is considered, together with other stabilizing structures such ascross-laminated timber panels. 25. Numerical study of dense particle flows under planar shear
Abstract : In this thesis I conducted numerical simulations to study the flow behavior of dense particle flows composed of hard particles under planar shear using the discrete element method. The simulations were carried out in two dimensional systems, where the particles are modelled as circular discs. The discs are non-Brownian and neutrally buoyant. READ MORE
