  2. 2. Hypothermia as an adjunctive therapy in Acute Myocardial Infarction and Cardiogenic Shock

    Author : Matthias Götberg; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AMI; Cardiogenic Shock; CMR; Hypothermia;

    Abstract : INTRODUCTION: Reperfusion therapy in patients with an ongoing ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is to re-establish coronary flow in the epicardial arteries as soon as possible in order to reduce infarct size and associated complications. Hypothermia has in experimental studies been shown to reduce infarct size. READ MORE

  3. 3. Disease-causing Keratin Mutations and Cytoskeletal Dysfunction in Human Skin : In vitro Models and new Pharmacologic Strategies for Treating Epidermolytic Genodermatoses

    Abstract : Epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) and epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI) are rare skin fragility diseases characterized by intra-epidermal blistering due to autosomal dominant-negative mutations in basal (KRT5 or KRT14) and suprabasal (KRT1 or KRT10) keratin genes,  respectively. Despite vast knowledge in the disease pathogenesis, the pathomechanisms are not fully understood, and no effective remedies exist. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of hepatoduodenal trauma and fluid therapy in hemorrhagic shock

    Author : Peep Talving; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Liver injury; epidemiology; population-based study; duodenum injury; gunshot injury; surgery; trauma; emergency care; bleeding; hypotension; hemorrhagic shock; fluid resuscitation; prehospital fluid therapy; morbidity; mortality;

    Abstract : Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death among young adults and children, accounting for 5 million deaths worldwide on an annual basis. In Sweden alone, 2500 individuals succumb to traumatic injuries yearly. Beyond the burden of death, injuries contribute to a large proportion of disability. READ MORE

  5. 5. Strain echocardiography in the critically ill patient : Studies in patients with septic shock and subarachnoid haemorrhage

    Author : Keti Dalla; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Strain echocardiography in ICU patients; Left ventricle; Right ventricle; Septic shock; Subarachnoid haemorrhage; Norepinephrine;

    Abstract : In this thesis, strain echocardiography by two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (2D-STI), was used for the evaluation of left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function in critically ill patients with septic shock and subarachnoid haemorrhage. The aims were to: 1) investigate the value of strain echocardiography for the early detection of LV and RV dysfunction not diagnosed with conventional echocardiography in severe sepsis and septic shock, 2) to study the effects of norepinephrine on RV systolic function and pulmonary haemodynamics in patients with norepinephrine-dependent septic shock 3) evaluate the use of strain echocardiography for detection of myocardial injury in patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) and 4) study the impact of general anaesthesia and positive pressure ventilation (PPV) on RV and LV myocardial longitudinal strain.
