  1. 1. The Littorina transgression in southeastern Sweden and its relation to mid-Holocene climate variability

    Author : Shiyong Yu; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marklära; kartografi; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; tidal action; solar forcing; global meltwater pulse; North Atlantic storminess; climate changes; shoreline displacements; sea-level fluctuations; Littorina transgression; Baltic Sea; klimatologi;

    Abstract : Lateglacial and Holocene shoreline displacement along the Baltic coast resulted from both the isostatic land uplift and the ice-volume-equivalent sea-level rise. Relative changes of these two components led to alternating contact/isolation of the Baltic Basin with the North Sea during the Holocene. READ MORE

  2. 2. Submerged Landscapes in the Hanö Bay : Early Holocene shoreline displacement and human environments in the southern Baltic Basin

    Author : Anton Hansson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Submerged landscapes; Baltic Sea; Southern Sweden; Geoarchaeology; Mesolithic; Early Holocene; Environmental reconstruction; Shoreline displacement;

    Abstract : During times of lower global sea level, vast areas of the coastal shelf were exposed and converted into ecologically diverse coastal landscapes that wereattractive for human occupation. The landscapes were subsequently flooded during the deglaciation, but well-preserved remains of these landscapes andtheir inhabitants can today be found on the seafloor. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vegetation history, human impact and palaeogeography of West Estonia : Pollen analytical studies of lake and bog sediments

    Author : Siim Veski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Vegetation history; human impact; palaeogeography; shoreline displacement; The Baltic Sea; the Yoldia Sea; the Ancylus Lake; the Litorina Sea; pollen analysis; macro fossil analysis; bog and lake sediments; radiocarbon dating; Holocene; Estonia; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth Sciences with Specialization Environmental Analysis; geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys;

    Abstract : The history of Holocene vegetation in western Estonia and the West Estonian Archipelago is described. Early Holocene sea level changes in the area are reconstructed, and human impact on the vegetation during the Late Holocene is discussed West Estonia was divided into five study areas (Rummu-Maardu, Mustjärve, Velise-Kiilaspere, Tôstamaa Peninsula, and northern Saaremaa in the West Estonian Archipelago, from north to south). 4. 4. Tracking environmental changes of the Baltic Sea coastal zone since mid-Holocene

    Author : Wenxin Ning; Centrum för miljö- och klimatvetenskap (CEC); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I used two coastal sediment sequences from SE Sweden to study how Baltic Sea coastal environment has changed since the mid-Holocene. The results show the coastal environment has been influenced by multi-stressors, such as climate change, shoreline regression and anthropogenic activities. READ MORE

  5. 5. Late Weichselian and early Holocene shore displacement in the central Baltic, based on stratigraphical and morphological records from eastern Småland and Gotland, Sweden

    Author : Nils-Olof Svensson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pollen; Paleontologi; Shore displacement; Land uplift; Paleobotanic;

    Abstract : The glacial unloading and resulting isostatic land uplift have together with hydro-isostasy, eustatic rise of sea-level and geoidal changes, ruled the shore displacement of Fennoscandia. Within the Baltic basin, periods of damming and shifts of outlet further complicated the shore displacement during the period studied, c. 12,200-8400 BP. READ MORE
