  1. 1. Characterisation of Some Immune Genes in the Black Tiger Shrimp, Penaeus monodon

    Author : Kallaya Sritunyalucksana; C. J. Secombes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; fysiologisk mykologi; Physiological Mycology;

    Abstract : The molecular mechanisms of the immune system in shrimp, Penaeus monodon, are completely unknown, despite its economic importance as an aquaculture species, especially in Asia and Latin America. The genes and their gene products involved in the prophenoloxidase activating system, which is considered to be a non-self recognition and defence system in many invertebrates, have been isolated and characterised in shrimp. 2. 2. White Spot Syndrome Virus Interaction with a Freshwater Crayfish

    Author : Pikul Jiravanichpaisal; Kenneth Söderhäll; Irene Söderhäll; Ellen Kauschke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; WSSV; crayfish; hematopoietic tissue; cytokine; innate immunity; hemocytes; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Viruses are very abundant in water and hence diseases caused by viruses are common in marine organisms. These diseases create great problems for the commercial farming of crustaceans and mussels. READ MORE

  3. 3. Use of Recombinant Allergens for Component-Resolved Diagnostics (CRD) in IgE-Mediated Allergy

    Author : Åsa Marknell DeWitt; Pia Ek; Jonas Lidholm; Ronald van Ree; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biomedical laboratory science; recombinant allergen; IgE; component-resolved diagnostics; CRD; tropomyosin; Phl p 11; Phl p 4; Pen a 1; Hev b 5; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Abstract : Immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergy occurs when our immune system causes a reaction to otherwise harmless substances (allergens). Allergens are predominantly proteins present in biological materials such as pollens, mites, animal epithelia, moulds and foods. READ MORE
