  1. 1. Modelling of Mass and Heat Transport in Paper - Evaluation of Mechanisms and Shrinkage

    University dissertation from Chemical Engineering, Lund University

    Author : Erik Baggerud; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solid-based coordinates; paper; porous medium; convection; diffusion; volume fractions; mercury displacement; shrinkage; simulations; convective; hot surface; Modelling; drying; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Abstract : In this work a one-dimensional model for the mass and heat transport in the thickness direction of paper has been developed. Solid-based coordinates were applied to simplify incorporation of shrinkage. Liquid diffusion, gas convection and vapour and air diffusion were incorporated as mass transport mechansims. READ MORE

  2. 2. Shrinkage and Related Properties of Alkali-Activated Binders Based on High MgO Blast Furnace Slag

    University dissertation from Luleå University of Technology

    Author : Abeer Humad; Luleå tekniska universitet.; [2019]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Alkali-activated slag; alkali-activated materials; high-MgO blast furnace slag; shrinkage; creep; carbonation; strength; heat curing; Byggmaterial; Building Materials;

    Abstract : Concrete is the second most used material in the world just after water. A drawback is that it is mostly based on Portland cement, which has an extremely high carbon footprint reaching a staggering 900 kg/tonne. The carbon dioxide emissions related to the production of the Portland cement accounts for nearly 8 % of the global total. READ MORE

  3. 3. Plastic Shrinkage Cracking in Concrete

    University dissertation from Luleå

    Author : Faez Sayahi; Luleå tekniska universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Early-age (up to 24 hours after casting) cracking may become problematic in any concrete structure. It can damage the aesthetics of the concrete member and decrease the durability and serviceability by facilitating the ingress of harmful material. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling of the pyrolysis of large wood particles

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Michel Bellais; KTH.; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; drying; modelling; pyrolysis; shrinkage; wood; TECHNOLOGY Chemical engineering Chemical process and manufacturing engineering Chemical energy engineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Kemiteknik Kemisk process- och produktionsteknik Kemisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : Wood is an interesting alternative to fossil fuels. It is CO2-neutral and widely available. However it is a difficult fuel to handle which features a low energy content. Thus technologies for wood thermal conversion need to be improved. READ MORE

  5. 5. Time dependent material properties of shotcrete for hard rock tunnelling

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Lars Elof Bryne; KTH.; [2014]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shotcrete; rock; granite; bond strength; compressive strength; pullout testing; failure modes; interfacial transition zone; micro structure; ettringite; set accelerator; shrinkage; drains; glass fibres; laboratory testing; tunnels tunnelling;

    Abstract : In this thesis different mechanical properties for shotcrete (sprayed concrete) such as compression strength, bond strength, bending tensile strength, elastic modulus, free and restrained shrinkage as a function of its age was investigated. One of the main issues was to investigate the difference between ordinary cast concrete and shotcrete. READ MORE
