  1. 1. Observed and simulated changes in extreme precipitation and cold surges in China: 1961–2005

    Author : Tinghai Ou; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate extremes; Precipitation; Cold surge; Siberian High; CMIP5; reanalysis; atmospheric circulation;

    Abstract : In the present work, precipitation and temperature related climate extremes are examined, with a focus on Mainland China. The objectives of this study are a) to identify targeted climate extremes and their changes during the last decades, and b) to examine the ability of current global climate models to reproduce identified patterns of change. 2. 2. High-resolution mapping of soil organic carbon storage and soil properties in Siberian periglacial terrain

    Author : Matthias Siewert; Gustaf Hugelius; Mats Olsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil organic carbon; Siberia; remote sensing; ecosystems; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : In the past years considerable attention has been given to soil organic carbon (SOC) stored in permafrost-affected soils in periglacial terrain. Studies have shown that these soils store around half the global SOC pool, making them a key component of the global carbon cycle. READ MORE

  3. 3. The immunoglobulin genes in an Actinopterygian fish, the Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baeri)

    Author : Mats Lundqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Immunoglobulin genes; gene organization; transmembrane TM ; comparative immunology; Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii ; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Molecular Immunology; molekylär immunologi;

    Abstract : Characterization of the immunoglobulin (Ig) light (L) and heavy (H) chain genes from the Siberiansturgeon, Acipenser baeri, revealed an Ig structure simhar to the IgM elass of mammals. The serumforms of the sturgeon Ig are tetrameric and dimeric. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transport, degradation and burial of organic matter released from permafrost to the East Siberian Arctic Shelf

    Author : Lisa-Marie Bröder; Örjan Gustafsson; Tommaso Tesi; Elizabeth Canuel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic carbon; marine sediments; East Siberian Sea; Laptev Sea; cross-shelf transport; degradation rate constants; carbon isotopes; terrestrial biomarkers; HMW wax lipids; lignin phenols; compound-specific radiocarbon analysis; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Permafrost soils in the Arctic store large quantities of organic matter, roughly twice the amount of carbon that was present in the atmosphere before the industrial revolution. This freeze-locked carbon pool is susceptible to thawing caused by amplified global warming at high latitudes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Behaviour and life-history responses to chick provisioning under risk of nest predation

    Author : Sönke Eggers; David Winkler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Chick provisioning; clutch size; delayed dispersal; nest concealment; nest predation; parental care; population decline; Perisoreus infaustus; Siberian jay; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Abstract : This thesis examines risk management in breeding Siberian jays (Perisoreus infaustus), which is indigenous to the northern taiga. Parent behaviour and the nest are cryptic. A new nest is built each year. It is placed on spruce or pine branches close to the trunk and well insulated with lichens, feathers and reindeer hair. READ MORE
