11. X-ray structure analysis of short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases
Abstract : X-ray crystallography and site-directed mutagenesis were used to better understand the structure/function relationships in the family of short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR). This group of enzymes constitutes a protein family with at least 60 members with highly diverse functions in pro- and eukaryotes. READ MORE

12. Interaction studies of idiotypic and antiidiotypic antibodies at experimental tumor targeting
Abstract : An increasing number of antibodies are being labeled with radionuclides for immunotargeting, but the negative side effects generated on normal tissues by the nuclide remains a significant problem. The clearing of non-tumor-targeted radiolabeled antibodies from the circulation contributes significantly to improved targeting; it has been demonstrated that anti-idiotypic antibodies can be used for this purpose. 13. Beta-Glycosidases from Hyperthermophiles as Biocatalysts
Abstract : The thesis concerns glycosyl transfer with use of b-glycosidases, most of them from hyperthermophilic organisms. Both optimisation of the reaction conditions and protein engineering in terms of site-directed mutagenesis were used to improve b-glycosidase-catalysed reactions. READ MORE

14. A1M: a heme and radical binding protein. A study on structure, function and mechanisms
Abstract : This thesis describes functional and structural studies of the human protein α1-microglobulin (A1M), an evolutionarily well-conserved 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein mainly synthesized in the liver. A1M belongs to the lipocalin protein family. Lipocalins share a very similar structur, an 8-stranded β-barrel forming a hydrophobic pocket. READ MORE

15. Regulation of tartrate-resistant purple acid phosphatase by proteolytic processing in rat
Abstract : Purple acid phosphatase (PAP) is an iron-containing binuclear acid metallohydrolase with a characteristic purple colour, also referred to as tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), uteroferrin or type 5 acid phosphatase. PAP is highly expressed in osteoclasts and has a role in bone resorption. READ MORE
