  1. 1. APOLIPOPROTEIN M

    Author : Olof Axler; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal peptide; Apolipoprotein; signal peptidase; ELISA; MODY; coronary heart disease;

    Abstract : Apolipoprotein M (apoM) is composed of 188 amino acids and has an apparent molecular weight of 25 kDa. ApoM belongs to the lipocalin protein superfamily, and is found in all major lipoprotein classes, although the majority of apoM is found in high density lipoprotein, HDL. In apoM, the signal peptide is retained in the mature protein. READ MORE

  2. 2. Apolipoprotein M – Studies of Structure and Function

    Author : Josefin Ahnström; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal peptidase; signal peptide; crystallization; Apolipoprotein; lipocalin; HDL; coronary heart disease;

    Abstract : Apolipoprotein M (apoM), a 25 kDa plasma protein, is found in all major lipoprotein classes, although the majority is found in high density lipoproteins (HDL). ApoM has been suggested to be involved in the formation of and adding to the antiatherogenic functions of HDL, but its function is still not completely known. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Sequence to Sorting : Prediction of Signal Peptides

    Author : Henrik Nielsen; Philipp Bucher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : In the present age of genome sequencing, a vast number of predicted genes are initially known only by their putative nucleotide sequence. The newly established field of bioinformatics is concerned with the computational prediction of structural and functional properties of genes and the proteins they encode, based on their nucleotide and amino acid sequences. 4. 4. Membrane and secretory protein production in Escherichia coli

    Author : Alexandros Karyolaimos; Jan-Willem de Gier; Matthew DeLisa; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; recombinant protein; tunable protein production; cytoplasmic membrane; periplasm; signal peptide; force profile analysis; co-translational folding; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Escherichia coli (E. coli) is the most widely used bacterium for the production of recombinant proteins. However, the production of proteins in its cytoplasmic membrane or periplasm is challenging. Therefore, the aim of this doctoral thesis was to develop setups for enhancing the production of membrane and secretory proteins in E. READ MORE

  5. 5. Antigens derived from the mucin MUC1 : Solution and solid-phase synthesis of saccharides, peptides and glycopeptides

    Author : Maciej Pudelko; Mikael Elofsson; Fredrik Almqvist; Thisbe K. Lindhorst; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lactones; glycopeptides; signal peptide; neoglycolipid arrays; solid-phase synthesis; MUC1; gel-phase 19F NMR spectroscopy; fluorinated alpha-amino protective group; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Mucin is a term used to describe a large family of heavily glycosylated proteins which are present on the surfaces of secretory epithelial cells and are overexpressed by many carcinomas. Membrane-bound mucin MUC1 is of special interest. Its backbone consists of repeating units of twenty amino acids with five potential glycosylation sites. READ MORE
