6. Effective use of X rays in diagnostic radiology : Guidance for the optimisation of image quality and absorbed dose in the patient by use of a Monte Carlo computational model of the imaging chain
Abstract : The primary objective of this thesis is to give guidance for the reduction of absorbed dose in the patient and the improvement of image quality by the optimisation of the various parameters which control the performance of the radiological imaging system. The optimisation means that image quality (contrast in screen-film imaging and signal-to-noise ratio in digital imaging) is kept constant and combinations of operating parameters which yields the lowest mean absorbed dose in the patient is determined. 7. Some concatenated and iterative decoding approaches for continuous phase modulation
Abstract : Several concatenated and iterative decoding approaches are used toimprove the power efficiency of continuous phase modulation (CPM).First a symbol interleaver is used for serially concatenated CPM(SCCPM). Convergence of iterative decoding for this scheme can beearlier (lower SNR: Signal-to-Noise-Ratio) compared to bitinterleaved SCCPM. READ MORE

8. Signal Design for Active Sensing and Communications
Abstract : Man-made active sensing systems such as active radar and sonar have been a vital part of our civilization's advancement in navigation, defense, meteorology, and space exploration. Modern active sensing systems rely heavily on the significant progress in the science and technology of communications made within the last century. READ MORE

9. Detection in Digital Communication Systems with Phase Noise
Abstract : In every communication system, the limitations of the hardware sets a constraint on the overall system performance. More often than not, these limitations are not taken into account during the system design stage where the hardware is considered ideal. READ MORE

10. Optimal Detectors for Transient Signal Families and Nonlinear Sensors : Derivations and Applications
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with detection of transient signal families and detectors in nonlinear static sensor systems. The detection problems are treated within the framework of likelihood ratio based binary hypothesis testing. READ MORE
