21. Effective use of X rays in diagnostic radiology : Guidance for the optimisation of image quality and absorbed dose in the patient by use of a Monte Carlo computational model of the imaging chain
Abstract : The primary objective of this thesis is to give guidance for the reduction of absorbed dose in the patient and the improvement of image quality by the optimisation of the various parameters which control the performance of the radiological imaging system. The optimisation means that image quality (contrast in screen-film imaging and signal-to-noise ratio in digital imaging) is kept constant and combinations of operating parameters which yields the lowest mean absorbed dose in the patient is determined. 22. Bone conducted sound transmission for communication systems
Abstract : Bone conducted (BC) sound is vibrations in the skull bone that are transmitted to the cochlea and perceived as sound, originating from a sound field or a vibration transducer. This transmission path can be advantageous for communication systems in some situations, e.g. READ MORE

23. Nanofabricated Devices Based on Molecular Motors: Biosensing, Computation and Detection
Abstract : The thesis describes the use of molecular motors in nanofabricated devices designed for potential applications in biosensing, computation and detection. We utilize the well-established guiding principles for controlling the motion of actin filaments propelled by myosin molecular motors, and build upon these developments in order to improve upon previously demonstrated techniques, and establish new methods that, we believe, offer significant progress in these fields. 24. Some concatenated and iterative decoding approaches for continuous phase modulation
Abstract : Several concatenated and iterative decoding approaches are used toimprove the power efficiency of continuous phase modulation (CPM).First a symbol interleaver is used for serially concatenated CPM(SCCPM). Convergence of iterative decoding for this scheme can beearlier (lower SNR: Signal-to-Noise-Ratio) compared to bitinterleaved SCCPM. READ MORE

25. Miniature Plasma Sources for High-Precision Molecular Spectroscopy in Planetary Exploration
Abstract : The prospect of finding life outside Earth has fascinated mankind for ages, and new technology continuously pushes the boundary of how remote and how obscure evidence we can find. Employing smaller, or completely new, types of landers and robots, and equipping them with miniature instruments would indeed revolutionize exploration of other planets and moons. READ MORE
