  1. 1. Sexual Signals and Speciation : A Study of the Pied and Collared Flycatcher

    Author : Jon Haavie; Glenn-Peter Saetre; Trevor Price; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Speciation; Sexual signals; Hybridization; Reinforcement; Song; Female preference; Sex-linkage; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Speciation is the process in which reproductive barriers evolve between populations. In this thesis I examine how sexual signals contribute to the maintenance, reinforcement or breakdown of reproductive barriers.Male pied flycatchers (Ficedula hypoleuca) and collared flycatchers (F. albicollis) differ in song and plumage traits. 2. 2. Adhesion Dependent Signals : Cell Survival, Receptor Crosstalk and Mechanostimulation

    Author : Anjum Riaz; Staffan Johansson; Bengt Hallberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Integrins; Signal transduction; Protein kinase B; Akt; PI3K; Heparanase; ROS; Mechanosignalling; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Cellforskning; Cell Research;

    Abstract : The integrin family of cell surface receptors is evolutionary conserved and found in all multicellular animals. In humans 8-alpha and 18-beta integrins are non-covalently associated into 24 dimers. Integrins mediate cell-extracellular matrix and cell-cell interactions and participate in cell signalling. 3. 3. Modelling and Inference using Locally Stationary Processes : Biomedical applications

    Author : Rachele Anderson; Statistical Signal Processing Group; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Modelling of Time-Varying Signals; Locally Stationary Processes; Statistical Inference; Time-frequency Estimation; Regression; EEG Signals; HRV Signals;

    Abstract : This thesis considers statistical methods for non-stationary signals, specifically stochastic modelling, inference on the model parameters and optimal spectral estimation. The models are based on Silverman’s definition of Locally Stationary Processes (LSPs). READ MORE

  4. 4. Local Sea Level Observations Using Reflected GNSS Signals

    Author : Johan Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; GNSS-R; signal-to-noise ratio; sea level; GNSS; reflected signals; multipath; GPS; GLONASS; tide gauge; phase-delay;

    Abstract : Sea level rise due to global warming is predicted to have a large impact on human society, especially for populations living in coastal regions and on islands. It is therefore of great importance to monitor the sea level and to increase the understanding of the local hydrodynamic and meteorological responses to a global sea level rise. READ MORE

  5. 5. Activation of human eosinophils by exogenous danger signals

    Author : Lena Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Human eosinophils; danger signals; WKYMVm; bacteria; allergen; chemotaxis; CR3; free oxygen radicals; degranulation; formyl peptide receptor;

    Abstract : Eosinophilic granulocytes are leukocytes that reside in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Their function in health is unknown. READ MORE
