  1. 1. Structural Silicides - Processing, Microstructure and Toughening

    Author : Danqing Yi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; toughening; solid solubility; processing; microstructures; mechanical properties; composites; silicides; crystal structure; alloying effects; phase transformation;

    Abstract : Molybdenum disilicide is a promising candidate material for high temperature structural uses. However, its room-temperature toughness is rather low and has to be improved. The objective of this thesis is to improve the fracture toughness of MoSi2 by alloying and composite processes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fabrication and Corrosion Properties of Nickel Silicides Thin Films

    Author : Eric Tam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nickel silicides; ion-beam sputter deposition; potentiodynamic polarisation measurements; X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; corrosion.; thin films;

    Abstract : Surface engineering is a vital issue in engineering materials design. The enhancement of surface properties extends the materials lifetime and improves the materials performance without changing the bulk properties. Thin film deposition is one of the most commonly applied techniques in this field. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tailoring of Contacts on Silicon Carbide - Procedures and Mechanisms

    Author : S. A. Perez-Garcia; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; interfacial reaction; metallic contacts; Silicon carbide; silicides; XPS.;

    Abstract : Silicon carbide (SiC) exhibits very good electrical, thermal, chemical and mechanical properties which make it suitable for the next generation of wide band gap electronic devices, where silicon (Si) cannot be used due to its limitations with respect to the mentioned properties. Nickel (Ni) and Tantalum (Ta) are among the metals used for the contact formation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thin Mn silicide and germanide layers studied by photoemission and STM

    Author : Joakim Hirvonen Grytzelius; Lars Johansson; Hanmin Zhang; Leif Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiconductor surfaces; Si 111 ; Ge 111 ; manganese; Mn; silicides; germanides; atomic structure; electronic structure; magnetic properties; LEED; ARPES; XPS; core-level spectroscopy; STM; STS; XMCD; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis concerns experimental studies of thin manganese silicide and germanide layers, grown by solid phase epitaxy on the Si(111)7×7 and the Ge(111)c(2×8) surfaces, respectively. The atomic and electronic structures, as well as growth modes of the epitaxial Mn-Si and Mn-Ge layers, were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), core-level spectroscopy (CLS), and scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS). 5. 5. Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy and Spectroscopy of Adsorbates on Aluminium and Silicon

    Author : Mikael Johansson; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alkali metals; Scanning tunnelling spectroscopies; Scanning tunnelling microscopy; Photoelectron Spectroscopy; Single crystal surface; Silicon; Surface structure; Aluminium; Silicides; Fullerenes.; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Johansson;

    Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is the investigation of atomic andmolecular adsorbates on single crystal surfaces of silicon and aluminiumusing the techniques of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) andspectroscopy (STS). The emphasis has been to use atomic-resolutionspectroscopy and imaging to determine the relationship between thesurfaces' geometric and electronic structures. READ MORE
