  1. 1. Studies of acoustic waves, noise and charge pumping using single-electron devices

    Author : Martin Gustafsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; single-electron pump; single-electron transistor; surface acoustic wave; single-electron devices; charge pumping; TLF; SINIS turnstile; electrometer; two-level fluctuator; single-photon detector; noise; SAW; SET;

    Abstract : This thesis covers a range of experiments on single-electron devices, electrical circuits that utilize the discreetness of the electron charge. The Single-Electron Transistor (SET) is of special importance among these, being the most sensitive electrometer demonstrated, and sufficiently mature to serve as a building block in sensors and detectors for physical phenomena that can be transformed into charge signals. 2. 2. Time-resolved detection of temporally correlated, single-charge tunnelling

    Author : Jonas Bylander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Josephson junctions; time-correlated tunnelling; radio-frequency single-electron transistor; current standard; charge solitons; SET oscillations; Coulomb blockade; metrology; SET; tunnel junction array;

    Abstract : We report real-time detection of the single charges that constitute a small electrical current, as they flow through a nano-electronic device. This represents a direct demonstration of charge discreteness in an electrical current. READ MORE

  3. 3. Silicon Nanowire Based Electronic Devices for Sensing Applications

    Author : Qitao Hu; Zhen Zhang; Shi-Li Zhang; Si Chen; Jeehwan Kim; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; silicon nanowire; field-effect transistor; nanoelectromechanical resonator; CMOS-compatible; multiplexed detection; single charge detection; quantum sensing; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektronik; Engineering Science with specialization in Electronics;

    Abstract : Silicon nanowire (SiNW) based electronic devices fabricated with a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) compatible process have wide-range and promising applications in sensing area. These SiNW sensors own high sensitivity, low-cost mass production possibility, and high integration density. READ MORE

  4. 4. Charge and Energy Noise from On-demand Electron Sources

    Author : Nastaran Dashti; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boltzmann-Langevin approach.; fluctua- tions and noise; single-electron source; energy and heat currents; time-dependently driven mesoscopic capaci- tor; charge current; Floquet scattering theory;

    Abstract : On-demand single electron sources (SES) are of key importance for future electronic applications such as metrology or quantum optics with electron. They allow for achieving a controlled, low-fluctuations flow of particles in a coherent mesoscopic conductor. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental Studies of Charge Transport in Single Crystal Diamond Devices

    Author : Saman Majdi; Jan Isberg; Ricardo S. Sussmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Single crystal diamond; carrier transport; CVD diamond; time-of-flight; mobility; IR detector; compensation; diamond diode; drift velocity; thermal detector;

    Abstract : Diamond is a promising material for high-power, high-frequency and high- temperature electronics applications, where its outstanding physical properties can be fully exploited. It exhibits an extremely high bandgap, very high carrier mobilities, high breakdown field strength, and the highest thermal conductivity of any wide bandgap material. READ MORE
