  1. 1. Single nucleotide polymorphisms related to immune responses in Plasmodium falciparum malaria

    Author : Amre Nasr; Klavs Berzins; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Gehad ElGhazali; Thor Theander; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FcγRIIa-R H131; CRP genotypes; GM KM allotypes; IgG; and malaria; Sudan; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : The current research is directed towards dissection of host genetic factors involved in host immune response and the malaria disease outcome. A possible association between FcγRIIa polymorphism and anti-malarial antibody (A.M.A) responses were investigated in Sudanese patients in relation to clinical outcome of falciparum malaria. 2. 2. Eosinophil Cationic Protein : Expression Levels and Polymorphisms

    Author : Jonas Byström; Helene Rosenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Eosinophils; Neutrophils; Monocytes; Macrophages; mRNA; eosinophil cationic protein; DNA; polymorphism; Hodgkin Lymphoma; asthma; allergy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : The eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is usually associated with the eosinophil granulocyte. In this thesis the presence and production of this protein has been studied in two other cells. The circulating monocyte was found to contain ECP mRNA and small amounts of ECP, one thousand times less than that found in the eosinophil. READ MORE

  3. 3. Detecting Sex and Selection in Ancient Cattle Remains Using Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms

    Author : Emma M Svensson; Anders Götherström; Juha Kantanen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : All contemporary taurine cattle originated some 10,000 years ago when their wild ancestor, the aurochs, was domesticated in the Near East. Although the aurochs was widespread also in Europe, there is no evidence for a local domestication. The aurochs has been extinct since 1627 and therefore little is known about its biology. READ MORE

  4. 4. Functional Role of Genetic Polymorphisms Associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Author : Sara E Löfgren; Ulf Gyllensten; Jan Hillert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoimmunity; systemic lupus erythematosus; genetic association; single nucleotide polymorphism; IRF5; CD226; miR-146a; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic and complex autoimmune disorder characterized by a failure in the mechanism of self-tolerance and production of autoantibodies, potentially affecting any organ in the body. The genetic factors behind the disease have been extensively studied in the past years and to date a list of more than 30 loci have been associated with SLE. READ MORE

    Abstract : The clinical course of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is highly heterogeneous, which has prompted the search for biomarkers that can predict prognosis in this disease. The IGHV gene mutation status and certain genomic aberrations have been identified as reliable prognostic markers of clinical outcome for this disorder. READ MORE
