1. Toxicometabolomics and biotransformation product screening in single zebrafish embryos
Abstract : Over the last decade environmental agencies worldwide have escalated their work to phase out animal testing for the purposes of chemical regulation. Meanwhile the number of commercially available chemicals and the requirements for hazard assessments have both increased, creating a large need for substitution of traditional in vivo assays with in vitro tests. 2. Phase Noise in Communication Systems--Modeling, Compensation, and Performance Analysis
Abstract : The continuous increase in demand for higher data rates due to applications with massive number of users motivates the design of faster and more spectrum efficient communication systems. In theory, the current communication systems must be able to operate close to Shannon capacity bounds. READ MORE

3. Ion Tracks for Micro- and Nanofabrication : From Single Channels to Superhydrophobic Surfaces
Abstract : A method is described for preset-count irradiations between 1 and 100 ions singling-out individual ions from an ion beam with more than a billion ions arriving per second. The ion tracks are etched in a conductometric system with real-time evaluation of the acquired data. The etch process can be interrupted when reaching a preset channel diameter. READ MORE

4. Frequency Noise in Coherent Optical Systems: Impact and Mitigation Methods
Abstract : The increase in capacity demand along with the advancement in digital signal processing (DSP) have recently revived the interest in coherent optical communications and led to its commercialization. However, design and development of robust DSP algorithms for example for carrier phase recovery (CPR) becomes complex as we opt for high order modulation formats such as 16QAM and beyond. READ MORE

5. MAX phase thin films : unique multifunctional ceramics with the elements Ti, Si, Ge, Sn, and C
Abstract : Mn+1AXn phases are ternary carbides or nitrides (X) consisting of an early transition metal (M), and (A)- group element (group III-V). They combine ceramic and metallic properties with high oxidation and thermal shock resistance as well as low resistivity. READ MORE
