16. Quantitative bioimaging in single cell signaling
Abstract : Imaging of cellular samples has for several hundred years been a way for scientists to investigate biological systems. With the discovery of immunofluorescence labeling in the 1940’s and later genetic fluorescent protein labeling in the 1980’s the most important part in imaging, contrast and specificity, was drastically improved. 17. Illumination in single cell optical microscopy studies - friend and foe
Abstract : This thesis focuses on how to use light as a biological stress factor in optical microscopy experiments and simultaneously use the illumination to image the spatial and temporal protein dynamics in single yeast cells. The stress responses to environmental changes other than light have been extensively investigated in budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, often using techniques based on population averages. 18. Towards quantitative single cell analysis using optical tweezers and microfluidics
Abstract : Experiments on single cells have the potential to uncover information that would not be possible to obtain with traditional biological techniques, which only reflect the average behavior of a population of cells. In the averaging process, information regarding heterogeneity and cellular dynamics, that may give rise to a nondeterministic behavior at the population level, is lost. READ MORE

19. Single Cell Studies of Glycolytic Oscillations Using Microfluidics and Optical Tweezers
Abstract : The complex set of reactions in metabolism has been extensively studied in populations with millions of cells, but much information can still be gained by studying the heterogeneous metabolic behaviour in individual cells. The first part of energy metabolism is called glycolysis and is very similar in mammalian cells, such as human cells, and in yeast cells. READ MORE

20. Droplet Microfluidics reverse transcription and PCR towards Single Cell and Exosome Analysis
Abstract : Miniaturization of biological analysis is a trend in the field of biotechnology aiming to increase resolution and sensitivity in biological assays. Decreasing the reaction volumes to analyze fewer analytes in each reaction vessel enables the detection of rare analytes in a vast background of more common variants. READ MORE
