  1. 1. Sparse Modeling Heuristics for Parameter Estimation - Applications in Statistical Signal Processing

    Author : Stefan Ingi Adalbjörnsson; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; parameter estimation; sparse models; convex optimization; fundamental frequency; inharmonicity; audio localization; symbolic periodicity; alternating directions method of multipliers; N-dimensional decaying sinusoids.;

    Abstract : This thesis examines sparse statistical modeling on a range of applications in audio modeling, audio localizations, DNA sequencing, and spectroscopy. In the examined cases, the resulting estimation problems are computationally cumbersome, both as one often suffers from a lack of model order knowledge for this form of problems, but also due to the high dimensionality of the parameter spaces, which typically also yield optimization problems with numerous local minima. 2. 2. Spectral Analysis of Nonuniformly Sampled Data and Applications

    Author : Prabhu Babu; Peter Stoica; Fredrik Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spectral analysis; array processing; nonuniform sampling; sparse parameter estimation; direction of arrival DOA estimation; covariance fitting; sinusoidal parameter estimation; maximum-likelihood; non-parametric approach; exoplanet detection; radial velocity technique; Sudoku; Electrical Engineering with specialization in Signal Processing; Elektroteknik med inriktning mot signalbehandling;

    Abstract : Signal acquisition, signal reconstruction and analysis of spectrum of the signal are the three most important steps in signal processing and they are found in almost all of the modern day hardware. In most of the signal processing hardware, the signal of interest is sampled at uniform intervals satisfying some conditions like Nyquist rate. READ MORE

  3. 3. Methods for Simulation and Characterization of Nonlinear Mechanical Structures

    Author : Martin Magnevall; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear dynamics; nonlinear parameter estimation; harmonic balance; reverse-path; zero-memory nonlinear systems; hysteretic nonlinearities; dry-friction; geometric nonlinearities;

    Abstract : Trial and error and the use of highly time-consuming methods are often necessary for modeling, simulating and characterizing nonlinear dynamical systems. However, for the rather common special case when a nonlinear system has linear relations between many of its degrees of freedom there are particularly interesting opportunities for more efficient approaches. 4. 4. Advanced Spectral Analysis with Applications

    Author : Niclas Sandgren; Peter Stoica; Thomas L. Marzetta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; frequency-selective spectral analysis; damped sinusoidal model; prior knowledge; multichannel spectroscopy; phantom experimental data; in-vivo in-vitro data analysis; area-selective analysis; cepstrum thresholding; total-variance reduction; two-dimensional spectral estimation; spectral smoothing; irregular sampling; CARMA signals; Signal processing; Signalbehandling;

    Abstract : Spectral analysis has advanced the last decades as a signal processing tool to extract significant information about certain properties of measured data. The practical use of spectral analysis techniques in time-series analysis has been emphasized in the immense amount of previous literature in the field and by a rapidly growing number of applications. 5. 5. Radio Channel Prediction Based on Parametric Modeling

    Author : Ming Chen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wireless communications; channel prediction; GLRT; CRLB; NLLS; polynomial phase signal; Kalman filter; NILS.; sinusoidal modeling; channel modeling; MIMO;

    Abstract : Long range channel prediction is a crucial technology for future wireless communications. The prediction of Rayleigh fading channels is studied in the frame of parametric modeling in this thesis.Suggested by the Jakes model for Rayleigh fading channels,deterministic sinusoidal models were adopted for long rangechannel prediction in early works.
