  1. 1. Numerical Modelling and Statistical Analysis of Ocean Wave Energy Converters and Wave Climates

    Author : Wei Li; Isberg Jan; Jens Peter Kofoed; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Wave power; Wave energy converter; Gravity-based foundation; Power absorption; Wave spectrum; Linear generator; Frequency domain; Wave climate; Ocean wave modelling; Mixed-distribution model; Bivariate distribution; Archimedean copula;

    Abstract : Ocean wave energy is considered to be one of the important potential renewable energy resources for sustainable development. Various wave energy converter technologies have been proposed to harvest the energy from ocean waves. This thesis is based on the linear generator wave energy converter developed at Uppsala University. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic variation in natural populations: a modeller's perspective

    Author : Marina Rafajlovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coalescent process; site frequency spectrum; multiple paternity; dominant clone; divergent selection;

    Abstract : Thanks to advances in genome sequencing, empirical patterns of within- and between-species genetic variation are readily available. By studying these patterns much has been learned about the evolutionary histories of species. But the causes and consequences of different evolutionary histories are still difficult to tell apart. 3. 3. Biological effects of alternating magnetic fields with special reference to the visual system

    Author : Per Lövsund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The aims of the present investigation were to contribute to more knowledge of the interaction between extremely low frequency magnetic fields and excitable tissue and to widen the basic understanding of the mechanisms behind these effects. The human visual system and the frog retina were used as model systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. VLF and ULF Waves Associated with Magnetospheric Substorms

    Author : Andrew Collier; Lars Blomberg; James McKenzie; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space physics; Subtorms; Magnetosphere; VLF waves; ULF waves; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : A magnetospheric substorm is manifested in a variety of phenomena observed both in space and on the ground. Two electromagnetic signatures are the Substorm Chorus Event (SCE) and Pi2 pulsations. The SCE is a Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio phenomenon observed on the ground after the onset of the substorm expansion phase. READ MORE

  5. 5. Distal radius fractures : epidemiology and aspects of surgical management

    Author : Johanna Rundgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are the most common fractures treated by physicians. About 20% of all DRFs are treated surgically. The main surgical methods are volar plate fixation, external fixation and percutaneous pinning. The spectrum and frequency of associated complications vary considerably between surgical methods.
