21. The structural basis for the catalytic specificity of manganese lipoxygenases : 3D structure analysis of the lipoxygenase of Magnaporthe oryzae
Abstract : Lipoxygenases (LOX) catalyze regio- and stereospecific oxygenation of polyunsaturated fatty acids to hydroperoxides. These hydroperoxides are further metabolized to leukotrienes and lipoxins in mammals, and are involved in asthma and inflammation. LOX of animals and plants contain iron as catalytic metal (FeLOX). 22. Site-specific labeling of affinity molecules for in vitro and in vivo studies
Abstract : The thesis is focused on site-specific labeling of affinity molecules for different applications where two types of binding proteins, Affibody molecules and antibodies, have been used. For the purpose of improving the properties of Affibody molecules for in vivo imaging, novel bi-functional chelators for radiolabeling using the radionuclide 111In were evaluated. READ MORE

23. Site-specific recombination of P2-like phages; possible tools for safe gene therapy : A focus on phage ΦD145
Abstract : P2-like bacteriophages integrate their genome into the E. coli host cell by a site-specific recombination event upon lysogenization. The integrative recombination occurs between a specific sequence in the phage genome, attP, and a specific sequence in the host genome, attB, generating the host-phage junctions attL and attR. 24. Site-specific recombination in P2-like coliphages
Abstract : The scope of these studies has been to investigate the site-specific recombination systems of P2-like coliphages, both in an evolutionary perspective by a comparative analysis of related phages as well as in a functional perspective. Surveys of P2-like phages in Escherichia coli isolated from nature reveal the existence of seven discrete immunity classes and three integration sites, one of them previously unknown. READ MORE

25. Engineering Antibody Specificity Using Combinatorial Antibody Libraries
Abstract : The research presented in this thesis investigates antibody specificity, antibody-antigen and protein-protein interactions using combinatorial antibody libraries, phage-display and bacterial display technology. One goal was to develop a method to generate antibodies that bind two protein antigens with high affinity using a single-antigen binding site, and to investigate the molecular and thermodynamic requirements for antibody multispecificity.
