1. Defining and applying surrogate safety measures and behavioural indicators through site-based observations
Abstract : This dissertation looks into surrogate safety measures and behavioural indicators that are collected through site-based observations. Surrogate safety measures are defined as measurements that are used to describe the relationship between two road users in a traffic event for the purpose of quantifying the crash probability and/or the potential crash severity in a meaningful way. 2. Modelling of Traffic Loads on Bridges Based on Measurements of Real Traffic Loads in Sweden
Abstract : This thesis treats traffic load effects in road bridges and in particular bending moment and shear force in different types of bridges. All traffic load effects are described in terms of statistical distribution functions for annual extreme values. READ MORE

3. Effects of Safety Measures for Pedestrians and Cyclists at Crossing Facilities on Arterial Roads
Abstract : The principal aims of this thesis are to define suitable measures for safer pedestrian and cycle crossings on arterial roads, to implement these measures on a large scale and to acquire an insight into their effects on road users' safety, experiences, mobility and the environment, by creating a 30 km/h milieu at the above crossings. Two characteristically different types of measures, physical measures and variable message signs, based on three principles, lower speed, no priority and improved and relevant information, are tested within the framework of this project. 4. On the Application of Surface Wave Surveys for Seismic Site Response Evaluation
Abstract : In sites where earthquakes occur, the use of surface wave methods represents a convenient and effective procedure for soil characterization. In particular, Multichannel Analysis of Surface Wave (MASW) has become a popular tool in many seismic micro-zoning projects. READ MORE

5. Speed characteristics of urban streets based on driver behaviour studies and simulation
Abstract : The objective of the study was to gain in-depth knowledge of speed relationships for urban streets. The speed characteristics were examined using a number of methods for data collection. READ MORE
