1. Structure-Function Relationships of Pi Class Glutathione Transferase Studied by Protein Engineering
Abstract : The glutathione transferases (GSTs) represent a superfamily of dimeric proteins involved in cellular detoxication by catalyzing the nucleophilic addition of the reduced glutathione (GSH) to the hydrophobic electrophiles. The present work focuses on the functional role of the conserved structures of GSTP1-1. READ MORE

2. Fluorescent Probes and Protein Misfolding: Methods and Applications
Abstract : Protein misfolding is a frequently occurring event in living cells and without the quality control, the consequences are disasterous. In this thesis, we studied protein misfolding in vitro by employing a variety of fluorophores, to either detect the highly ordered aggregates of intrinsically disordered proteins/peptides or slight misfolding of a natively folded protein. 3. Co-operative recombination mechanisms promoting gene clustering and lateral transfer of antibacterial drug resistance
Abstract : Transposons of the Mu superfamily are widespread and have been shown to play an important role in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance among microorganisms. One of these elements, Tn5090/Tn402 is the basal vehicle of the type 1 integrons in which mobile resistance gene cassettes are inserted to form clusters and operons. READ MORE

4. Genetic studies in familial breast cancer
Abstract : This study focuses on familial breast cancer, where some alteration is supposed to be inherited and predispose the individuals to breast cancer. Even when the majority of breast cancer cases are sporadic, a familial breast cancer study might light on over certain genes involved in the etiology of the disease. READ MORE

5. Heme A synthase from Bacillus subtilis and Aeropyrum pernix
Abstract : Respiration in animals, plants and many bacteria is dependent on heme A, which functions as a prosthetic group in a-type cytochromes (terminal energy-transducing oxidases in the electron transport chain that reduce molecular oxygen to water). Heme A synthase catalyses a chemically very demanding reaction, the conversion of one specific methyl side-group of heme O to a formyl group of heme A. READ MORE
