  1. 11. On the Aggregation of Cereal β-Glucan and its Association with other Biomolecules : A Study using Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AF4)

    Author : Claudia Zielke; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : ß-glucan; polysaccharides; dietary fiber; field flow fractionation; Asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation AF4 ; Multiangle light scattering MALS ;

    Abstract : During recent years, numerous studies have shown the ability of dietary fiber toprotect the colon from disease and to improve intestinal health. Beneficial healtheffects, such as the lowering of blood cholesterol levels and a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease, are often directly related to cereal β-glucan, one of the major components of dietary fiber found in oat and barley. 2. 12. Mysid growth, stable isotope fractionation, and energetics : implications for food web studies

    Author : Elena Gorokhova; Ora Johansson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Systems Ecology; systemekologi;

    Abstract : Field data, stable isotope analyses of the Baltic Sea food web structure,and experimental studies of the functional response indicate that theomnivorous crustacean Mysis mixta (Crustacea, Mysidacea) has no distinct trophic position, but can potentially affect plankton communitystructure and compete with herring and sprat for the zooplankton. Toevaluate field data on mysid body constituents, abundance and populationstructure, and that of their potentialprey, basic knowledge of feeding behaviour, growth mechanisms, andreproductive capabilities are required. 3. 13. Characterization of Starch Using Flow Field-Flow Fractionation Techniques

    Author : Catalina Fuentes; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : To improve the properties and functionality of starch, it is important to understand the physicochemical and structural characteristics as raw material, after being modified to increase its characteristics and/or during changes due to the processing conditions. For this reason, the objective of the present thesis is to improve the understanding of characteristics and molecular properties like molar mass (M), root-mean-square radius (rrms) and their relation to other physicochemical properties of starch extracted from different sources. 4. 14. New fractionation tools targeting elusive post-translational modifications

    Author : Celina Wierzbicka; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular imprinting; Molecular recognition; Phosphopeptides; Proteomics; Phosphotyrosine; Phosphohistidine;

    Abstract : Protein phosphorylation is a reversible post-translational modification (PTM)playing a central role in numerous biological events including disease pathogenesis.Thus, the analysis of phosphoproteome is crucial for understandingcellular regulation processes and can facilitate the development of new diagnosticand therapeutic tools. 5. 15. Ribosomes and subunits from Escherichia coli studied by asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation

    Author : Mikael Nilsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolic engineering; VHb; Vitreoscilla hemoglobin; E. coli; Escherichia coli; separation; subunits; ribosomes; Asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation; flow FFF; optimization; biotechnological production; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (FFF) separations of ribosomes and subunits have been studied. Ribosomal material was prepared from Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells and analyzed by the size separation technique. READ MORE
