  1. 1. Interfacial kinetic ski friction

    Author : Leonid Kuzmin; Mats Tinnsten; Jonas Danvid; Mikael Jonsson; Roland Larsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ski glide; ski base; ski wax; hydrophobicity; UHMWPE; PTFE; topography; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : It is no doubt, that the ski glide over the snow is a very complicated object of research. However, ski glide is just a one area of many other areas of human knowledge. As a rule, the scientists and practitioners, who work in these areas, operate with some publicly expressed more or less solid hypotheses. READ MORE

  2. 2. Occupational exposure to fluorinated ski wax

    Author : Helena Nilsson; Jonathan W. Martin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Perfluorinated; polyfluorinated; FIS; occupational exposure; ski wax; biotransformation; metabolism; fluorotelomer alcohol; fluorotelomer acid; aerosol; dust; UPLC MS-MS; GC MS-MS; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) are used in the production of ski wax to reduce the friction between the snow and the ski. In this occupational study of ski wax technicians’ exposure to PFAS and particulate aerosol we have collected whole blood (wb) (n =94), air (n =84) and aerosol (n =159) samples at World Cup events from 2007-2011. 3. 3. Investigation of the most essential factors influencing ski glide

    Author : Leonid Kuzmin; Mikael Jonsson; Mats Tinnsten; Lars-Erik Persson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wax; Computer Aided Design;

    Abstract : There are many different parameters of a ski running surface (material, roughness, hydrophobicity, etc.). All the parameters have an influence on ski glide, some more and some less. Furthermore, some parameters with only minor relevance are commonly declared as critical, while truly critical parameters, as far as we know, never been investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. From emission sources to human tissues: modelling the exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances

    Author : Melissa Ines Gomis; Ian Cousins; Robin Vestergren; Hermann Fromme; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAAs; PFOA; PFOS; fluorinated alternatives; human exposure; pharmacokinetic modelling; hazard assessment; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Produced since the 1950’s, per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFASs) substances are persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic compounds that are ubiquitous in the environment. Being proteinophilic with a tendency to partition to protein-rich tissues, PFASs have been found in human serum worldwide and in wildlife with a predominance of long-chain perfluoroalkyl carboxilic acids (C7-C14 PFCAs) and perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (C6-C9 PFSAs).
