  1. 1. Discursive skin : Entanglements of gender, discourse and technology

    Author : Katherine Harrison; Nina Lykke; Anne Scott Sørensen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : gender; discourse; technology; feminism; technoscience; cyberpunk; blog; biotechnology; genus; diskurs; teknik; feminism; technoscience; cyberpunk; blogg; bioteknik; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between gender, discourse and technology, and the resulting construction of bodily norms, in a contemporary environment dominated by info- and bio-technologies. The premise from which this study starts is that the ‘intra-action’ between gender, discourse and technology plays a central role in shaping contemporary identities. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tactile Perception - Role of Physical Properties

    Author : Lisa Skedung; Mark Rutland; Katrin Danerlöv; Sören Andersson; Ann Maria Cornell; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Finger Friction; Skin Friction; Paper Friction; Friction Coefficient; Piezoelectric Force Sensor; Skin Tribology; Biotribology; Soft Tribology; Surface Roughness; Profilometry; Coated Paper; Uncoated Paper; Printing Paper; Magazine Paper; Tactile Perception; Psychophysics; Multidimensional Scaling; Magnitude Estimation; Paper Coarseness; Thermal Conductivity; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to interconnect human tactile perception with various physical properties of materials. Tactile perception necessitates contact and relative motion between the skin and the surfaces of interest. READ MORE

  3. 3. Methods for Analyzing Genomes

    Author : Patrik L. Ståhl; Joakim Lundeberg; Ivo Gut; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; array; sequence capture; genotyping; trinucleotide threading; sequencing; massively parallel sequencing; single molecule sequencing; Visual DNA; p53; single nucleotide polymorphism; biomarker; Genetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : The human genome reference sequence has given us a two‐dimensional blueprint of our inherited code of life, but we need to employ modern‐day technology to expand our knowledge into a third dimension. Inter‐individual and intra‐individual variation has been shown to be larger than anticipated, and the mode of genetic regulation more complex. READ MORE

  4. 4. On Inter-bar Currents in Induction Motors with Cast Aluminium and Cast Copper Rotors

    Author : Alexander Stening; Chandur Sadarangani; Ola Aglén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Induction motors; Inter-bar currents; Copper rotors; Aluminium rotors; Starting torque; Asynchronous torques; Starting current; Stray losses; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of the effects of inter-bar currents on inductionmotor starting performance and stray-load losses. The work is focused on theperformance differences between aluminium and copper casted rotors.A method to predict the stator current when starting direct-on-line isdeveloped. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of Motion Sickness on Human Thermoregulatory Mechanisms

    Author : Gerard Nobel; Ola Eiken; Nigel A.S. Taylor; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Motion Sickness; autonomic thermoregulation; behavioural thermoregulation; hypothermia; acetylcholine; histamine; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The presented studies were performed to investigate the effects of motion sickness (MS) on human autonomic and behavioural thermoregulatory mechanisms during cold stress and in a thermoneutral environment. The roles of histaminergic and cholinergic neuron systems in autonomic thermoregulation and MS-dependent dysfunction of autonomic thermoregulation were studied using a histamine-receptor blocker, dimenhydrinate (DMH), and a muscarine-receptor blocker, scopolamine (Scop).
