  1. 6. Epidemiology, diagnostics and treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers

    Author : Oscar Zaar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pain; non-melanoma skin cancer; basal cell carcinoma; merkel cell carcinoma; Bowen’s disease; imaging mass spectrometry; lipidomics; photodynamic therapy;

    Abstract : Skin cancer, including malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), is a growing problem due to the increasing incidence in Sweden and in other Caucasian populations. NMSCs are diagnosed as often as all other cancers combined and include basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), precursors to SCC such as Bowen’s disease (BD) and actinic keratosis (AK), as well as several rare skin cancers including Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC). 2. 7. Laser diode systems for photodynamic therapy and medical diagnostics

    Author : Eva Samsöe Andersen; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phasematching; photodynamic therapy; laser-induced fluorescence; medical laser systems.; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; Laserteknik; Laser technology; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; second harmonic generation; pulsed lasers; spatial filtering; Diode lasers; optical feedback; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Samsöe Andersen;

    Abstract : This work concerns techniques for improvement of the coherence properties of diode lasers so that they may be used in two specific medical applications: (Interstitial) photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics. In the first application, spatial coherence is crucial, since the treatment light should be delivered through relatively thin optical fibers to optimize treatment and to facilitate minimally invasive treatment. 3. 8. Optical Coherence Tomography for Dermatological Applications

    Author : Jakob Borup Thomsen; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; medical imaging; skin cancer diagnostics; optical imaging; blood flow; treatment monitoring;

    Abstract : Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive optical imaging technique providing approximately 10 micrometer resolution of tissue in vivo. Within ophthalmology, OCT has already proven its value and is routinely used for diagnosing retinal diseases. READ MORE

  4. 9. Photodynamic therapy and laser-based diagnostic studies of malignant tumours

    Author : Ingrid Wang; Medicinskt lasercentrum; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protoporphyrin IX PpIX ; delta -aminolevulinic acid ALA ; photosensitizer; basal cell carcinoma BCC ; Photodynamic therapy PDT ; laser-induced fluorescence LIF ; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : Two non-thermal regimens of light interaction with biological tissue, that are in a natural way connected, are discussed in the present thesis. These are photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of malignant tumours and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) for tissue characterization. READ MORE

  5. 10. Biophysical aspects of the skin barrier : towards increased non-invasive extraction and optimized biomarker sampling

    Author : Maxim Morin; Johan Engblom; Sebastian Björklund; Nicole K Brogden; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The skin provides a link to the body’s health via its rich variety of high and low molecular weight biomarkers, reflecting both systemic diseases (e.g., cancer, diabetes) and local skin disorders (e.g. READ MORE
