  1. 21. Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Oxylipins : Application to Cytochrome P450-Dependent Metabolism

    Author : Tomas Nilsson; Ernst Oliw; Johan Bylund; Mikael Hedeland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epoxyalcohols; fatty acids; hydroperoxides; electrospray ionization; ichthyosis; CYP4; linear ion trap; fragmentation mechanism; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Biochemical Pharmacology; Biokemisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : Cytochrome P450 (CYP) family 4 constitutes monoxygenases responsible for hydroxylation of fatty acids and other lipids. For example, CYP4F3 metabolizes leukotrienes and CYP4F8 prostaglandin H. Importantly, six of the twelve CYP4 enzymes are orphans, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 22. In vitro Studies of Genodermatoses Affecting Cytoskeletal Integrity and Lipid Processing in Human Epidermis : Pathogenic Mechanisms and Effects of Retinoid Therapy

    Author : Hao Li; Hans Törmä; Anders Vahlquist; Mikael Ivarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital Ichthyosiform Erythroderma; Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis; Ceramides; Keratins; Retinoids; Molecular Probe Techniques; Transglutaminases; Lipoxygenases; Fatty Acid Transporter Proteins; Keratinocytes; Epidermis; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Autosomal dominant epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI) is a rare disease characterized by intra-epidermal blistering due to mutations in either of two keratin genes, KRT1 and KRT10, expressed by suprabasal keratinocytes. Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) is a non-blistering, hyperkeratotic disease caused by mutations in one of the following genes: ABCA12, ALOX12B, ALOXE3, TGM1, CYP4F22, NIPAL4 and SLC27A4, which are all essential for skin barrier homeostasis. 3. 23. Responding Model Membranes. Lipid Phase Behaviour, Domain Formation and Permeability

    Author : Emma Sparr; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water and solute flux; Gradients; Monolayer; Two-dimensional crystals; Line activiy; Osmotic stress; Interlamellar forces; Phospholipid-cholesterol interactions; Phase transitions; Bilayer stack; Stratum corneum; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the interplay between the lipid phase behaviour, domain formation and the permeability of bilayer membranes. An essential part of this work has been the understanding of the phase transitions and equilibrium properties of lipid bilayers. READ MORE

  4. 24. Endogenous activators of the pain receptor TRPV1 From cell to man

    Author : Pouya Movahed Rad; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; cannabinoids; capsazepine; N-acylethanolamines; anandamide; blood Circulation; vasodilation; humans; calcitonin Gene-related Peptide; capsaicin; neurogenic inflammation; nociceptors; TRPV1 protein; pain;

    Abstract : N-acylethanolamines (NAEs) belong to a growing family of endogenous signalling molecules acting on a variety of receptors and ion channels. In 1992, it was reported that the N-acylethanolamine anandamide is present in the brain and activates the central cannabinoid (CB) receptor. READ MORE

  5. 25. Psoriasis : studies of phenotype at onset and of associated cardiovascular morbidity

    Author : Lotus Mallbris; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Psoriasis; guttate psoriasis; precipitating factors; streptococcal infection; life change events; Histocompatibility Antigens Class I HLA-C ; cardiovascular death; atherosclerosis; cardiovascular disease; hyperlipidemia.;

    Abstract : Psoriasis is a complex inflammatory skin disorder, affecting 2-3% of the population in the western world. The etiology of psoriasis is not yet known. However it is likely that its pathogenesis involves interplay between multiple genetic and environmental triggers. READ MORE
