  1. 1. Slag Cleaning of a Reduced Iron Silicate Slag by Settling : Influence of Process Parameters and Slag Modification on Copper Content

    Author : Jenny Isaksson; Caisa Samuelsson; Andreas Lennartsson; Anton Andersson; Pekka Taskinen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Copper losses; matte; speiss; fayalite slag; temperature; settling time; solid phases; industrial trial; CaO modification; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : During the pyrometallurgical extraction of copper, a significant part of the copper is lost with discard slag, which decreases profits, overall copper recovery, and efficiency of raw material usage. Smelting furnace slag usually has a copper content that is close to or higher than that of copper ores. READ MORE

  2. 2. A study of slag-steel-inclusion interaction during Ladle treatment

    Author : Johan Björklund; Pär Jönsson; Voicu Brabie; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ladle treatment; steel; slag; inclusions; ladle; refining; vacuum; tool steel; oxide activity; slag models; oxygen; equilibrium; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The thesis is based on two supplements with two major objectives. In the first supplement equilibrium top slag-steel bulk and inclusions-steel bulk were investigated by comparison between calculated and measured oxygen activity values. This was done by applying different oxide activity models for slags combined with thermodynamic calculations. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Study of Slag/Metal Equilibrium and Inclusion Characteristics during Ladle Treatment and after Ingot Casting

    Author : Hamid Doostmohammadi; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inclusions; thermodynamics; ladle treatment; vacuum; tool steel; bearing steel; slag; equilibrium; slag carryover; oxides; sulfides.; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : Today, there is a high demand on clean steel for high performance materialproperties. Thus, steel producers try to deliver a steel product with the highestquality and cleanliness to the market. The number of parameters that affect thesteel cleanliness may vary depending on the required material properties of thefinal product. READ MORE

  4. 4. A study of solid and liquid inclusion separation at the steel-slag interface

    Author : Jenny Strandh; Pär Jönsson; Robert Eriksson; Keiji Nakajima; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; mathematical modeling; inclusion separation; tundish; ladle; slag; steel-slag interface; physical properties; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis work aimed to provide a better knowledge of inclusion behavior at the steel-slag interface. All results are based on mathematical modeling of liquid and solid inclusion separation to the slag. The model descriptions of the inclusion transfer are based on the equation of motion at the system. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Mathematical and Experimental Study of Inclusion Behaviour at a Steel-Slag Interface

    Author : Jenny Wikström; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mathematical modeling; inclusion separation; tundish; ladle; slag; steel-slag interface; CSLM experiments; agglomeration; physical properties; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work is to increase the knowledge of inclusion behavior at the steel-slag interface by mathematical modeling and in-situ Confocal Scanning Laser Microscope experiments. Mathematical models based on the equation of motion predicting liquid and solid inclusion behavior was first investigated. READ MORE
